Humans Can't Tell Legitimate Science From Junk Science. But a new 'Little Black Book Of Junk Science' is here to help.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/startswithabang/2017/08/10/humans-cant-tell-legitimate-science-from-junk-science/

"When it comes to health, safety, and how we interact with the world around us, pretty much everyone recognizes the importance of making our decisions based on sound science. Yet even when presented with the same evidence, many people will draw different conclusions. Why? Because once we’ve made up our minds that something is either good or bad for us, we cherry-pick the remaining data to support our previously-held positions. Humans are notoriously bad at distinguishing legitimate science from junk science."

The good news: you can train/educate yourself to better tell the difference and you don't need a PhD to do it. It was the single most important thing I learned starting out as a science writer.... So this new Little Black Book of Junk Science seems like a worthy new tool.

I want a lot more explanation of how this works, assuming it's real.

This is a dead ringer for our cat. Can't imagine him swimming, though. :)
