An important point that is missing from this article is that, if you run the numbers, it essentially means Microsoft is claiming they'll beat Amazon in 2018, that their cloud revenue will be higher than Amazon's in 2018.

Amazon currently has $6B in revenue from AWS with 50% annual growth, so you can run a back-of-the-envelope estimate yourself. One caveat is that the products aren't directly comparable, as Microsoft is adding in online Office (similar to Google Docs but no match at Amazon AWS) and a few other things. Even so, it's close to a claim from Microsoft that they'll overtake AWS in three years.
