This is another great reference book, this time on canned food labels designed and used from 1877 all the way throughout Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods on canned food for domestic consumption as well as for export.

The book's small format IMHO doesn't do justice to the great design works and I really wish the book would be much larger. The dust jacket with it's faux tin-coated glitter is a prime example of a truly creative approach to book covers. Showa inspired illustrations reinforce this.

“I’m scared of our government and I’m disgusted by what little Silicon Valley has done to fight it” - Michael Arrington

Valley today represents typical nouveau riche attitude - they already have  learned to properly use cutlery and not to spit on the streets, but still have not realised, that with the great power comes a very great responsibility. It is really sad to see them talking about national security, but in fact all they do is cowardly hiding behind the whole "treason" reasons scared of the slightest push from the government. "Enabler" has never been a positive term, but these guys are taking it to the new low.

I want this so badly!

Excuse all of my posts guys, these are samples for a CM based shirt I've designed. I'd love to know your thoughts and opinions on the look, colors, etc. If we get enough buzz, it would be awesome to sell them! #nexus   #aosp   #cyanogenmod   #holo   #android   #design   #fasion

The blatant lack of transparency on Apple's side is getting annoying. It's one thing to keep your consumer products secret until the launch - this is a normal marketing strategy, but not letting developers know if your security has been compromised and if yes, to what extend and how is not cute - it's plain irresponsible. Not letting us access the essential tools of our trade with no explanation is unprofessional and insulting. Come on Apple, AppStore isn't the only place now, where devs are making money, so you can stop being an asshole to everybody now.

Of all #hightech places, where I live or frequent, my first #LTE experience has happened in the relatively technologically modest #Croatia on a replacement #Xperia Z, that I got in place of my S4 with the burned from #overclocking motherboard, because they had nothing else to choose from.

Twenty-volume folios will never make a revolution. It’s the little pocket pamphlets that are to be feared.
— Voltaire

One of the more interesting reference book on books, namely on self published underground zines in this case. First edition, limited run. A very interesting hot glue binding. Acquired on my last trip to Tokyo in some hipster popup store in Shinjuku.

On the security checkpoint the security team member has asked me to remove the cables from my hand luggage and send the luggage for a rescan. Throughout my extensive travels this is the first time I've heard such a request. Given, my cables completely cover the entire area of the onboard luggage with several layers (the picture doesn't do the justice, because large chunk of the wiring is covered with flat cable organizing tools, that have proved to be not as effective, is I was hoping).

+James Bos Haha, Beijing is usually very benevolent to me, but at the same time in Milano Malpensa they made a big fuzz about me carrying a hard drive, as it would be any kind of security concern. It's not even SSD, so they can see the plates and all the moving parts.

Jetlagged I am having my breakfast quietly and watching three women next to me at a table for six piling on all kinds of food in massive quantities. At some point some guy, seemingly from their travel group, comes to their table and to his friendly "Good morning" they reply "The food here doesn't taste good". No "Hello". No "Morning". Nothing... Not liking the food, incidentally doesn't prevent them from regular trips to the buffet counter for the purpose of acquisition of even more plates filled to the brim, as well as filling their purses with dragon fruits (reasoned by a concise "it's free"). Currently there is enough food for 10 people or so.

Terrified and amused at the same time, I am starting to listen to their conversation (they speak Russian and it seems they don't realize I do too) and to my dismay it turns out they are from my home city. The shame pulses through my veins right now.
