In the following case beginning the in now-closed Whittier Court, our client stole over $220,000 in liquor from his employer. Then while out on bail, he committed multiple armed robberies of liquor stores in the Gardena and Compton area. It was a sad case, which certainly could have turned out far worse than it did. How much time in custody did our client eventually receive? Click on the following link to find out - http://www.greghillassociates.com/whittier-theft-of-over-220-000-from-employer-five-years.html.

There are some cases that seem to stick in one’s memory for no other reason than the audacity of the client. In the following case out of Gardena and the Torrance Superior Court, our client solicited sales or trades of I-phones on Craigslist. The interested purchaser or trader would come to our client’s house, where our client would simply rob him. He did this repeatedly, until he was eventually caught. How did the case turn out? Attorneys often talk about resolving a shoplifting case for an infraction-level charge of disturbing the peace (Penal Code § 415(2)). Academically, theoretically or hypothetically, this is indeed possible, but how often does it actually happen and when it does, what type of facts allow this. Read about just such a case out of the Inglewood Superior Court, started by an arrest at the Hawthorne Costco. Being thorough and aggressive in the defense of every case can pay dividends on the most seemingly simple cases. In the following shoplifting case out of Torrance, our office demanded the store security films for the afternoon our client allegedly shoplifted. We subpoenaed the films. The store responded under oath that the films did not exist, but then magically gave them to the prosecutor later. Trial thus seemed like an option to embarrass the store’s honesty, ironically. How did the case resolve? Click on the following link - http://www.greghillassociates.com/torrance-delayed-entry-of-judgment-and-then-dismissal.html.

Sometimes, a case can be resolved prior to the case being filed and the police will agree to tell the prosecutor not to file the case, or the prosecutor will be aware of settlement efforts and not file the case. This is a rare situation, but in the following embezzlement case out of Manhattan Beach, our office was lucky enough to find a victim open to resolving the case. It was a great deal of work, but the client was very happy. A motion for civil compromise is a great way to dismiss a shoplifting case, however, it is subject to the judge’s discretion and, recently, many judges will heavily consider the prosecution’s opposition to dismissal. Such an opposition most commonly explains that the case involves exacerbating circumstances, such as the client being uncooperative or fleeing the scene. In the following Torrance case involving Kohl’s, our client stole a $49 trashcan and fled the scene, but the judge did grant the motion for civil compromise. When two young females, age 21 and 23, are caught stealing 39 items from Target, it is easy to think only of how to minimize punishment. Sometimes, such efforts lead to an agreement that the clients can actually earn a dismissal of the case by performing community service and taking certain anti-theft classes. To read about a recent case our office handled out of the Bellflower Courthouse where this did happen, click here - http://www.greghillassociates.com/bellflower-commercial-burglary-pc-459-case-dismissed.html.

In the following commercial burglary and grand theft case out of Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court, our client ran out of Costco with several items. She was pursued by loss prevention, eventually running into a nearby move theatre. Once in the theatre, she broke her ankle tripping over some steps. The case resolved for a charge of disturbing the peace (Penal Code § 415(2)). How did this happen? Sometimes, a conviction for a misdemeanor just appears like “overkill.” It does not fit. It is too much? When will a prosecutor agree with such a view? In the following shoplifting case out of Manhattan Beach, at Fry’s Electronics, we were able to persuade the prosecutor to amend the complaint for petty theft (Penal Code § 484) to add a charge for violating Penal Code § 490.1 (petty theft as an infraction). What were the facts? Click on the following link to find out - http://www.greghillassociates.com/manhattan-beach-shoplifting-from-fry-s-plea-to-infraction.html.

Motions for Civil Compromise in shoplifting cases used to be granted quite easily, as in the summary of the following case. Now it is not so easy and judges are more reluctant to allow someone to “buy their way out” of a crime. However, it is important to always consider such a motion when handling a shoplifting case, as the store involved may be amenable to signing the declaration necessary for the motion. Click on the following link to read about a shoplifting case dismissed by motion for civil compromise - http://www.greghillassociates.com/beverly-hills-shoplifting-at-trader-joe-s-case-dismissed.html.

If someone finds abandoned property, can that be theft from the rightful owner? The answer may seem simple, after all, the owner may have consented to anyone else having his or her property? But what if the item is stolen, only to be discarded by thief and another person finds it, how does he or she prove he was not the original thief? The following case out of San Pedro exemplified this tough issue. To read how it resolved, click on the following link - http://www.greghillassociates.com/san-pedro-receiving-stolen-cell-phone-case-not-filed.html.

In the following shoplifting case involving Costco and the Airport Courthouse, our client was accused of shoplifting a $59 ink cartridge for his printer. He had been through a rough few months in life and was not thinking normally when he committed the theft. Usually, such rationalizations of conduct evoke an unsympathetic or even sarcastic comment from the prosecutor, but in the following case, diversion was granted, permitting our client to “earn” a dismissal by performing community service and doing a few other things. To read about this case, click on the following link - http://www.greghillassociates.com/marina-del-rey-shoplifting-costco-diversion-dismissal.html.

Greg and his staff were extremely helpful, polite and responsive. I received a DUI and was worried it may hurt my chances to be hired. I researched and spoke with many law firms, although other law firms had experience with this type of dismissal, I was not too impressed with their credentials. I stumbled on to Greg Hills & Associates. I reviewed Greg's resume before contacting him. What caught my was his education background: Naval Academy graduate and M.B.A. on top of his J.D. After reading the the great reviews about Greg and his staff, I sent an email late at night regarding my case. The next morning I received an email from Greg. He said he could help and setup a time so that we could discuss my case. Greg was easy to talk to, very personable, he sound confident and knowledgeable; he knew court house where my case was going to be heard, and the process and procedures to have my case dismissed. After speaking with about the case, we spoke more about our backgrounds. I could tell he was honest person and he could get the case dismissed. The next morning one of his staff contacted me. She was polite and extremely helpful. The questions she asked were simple and straightforward. After responding to her questions, my application to dismiss my case was immediately submitted. A little over a month, I received an email from Greg with great news - the case was dismissed! I wish I found Greg Hill & Associates sooner! I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to help me have my case dismissed.

I hired Greg Hill & Associates and was SO glad I did. Greg knew exactly what to ask for and set up a deal that allowed me to get a dismissal, which would have otherwise affected my future career choice. On the day when the dismissal was going to be entered, he went to court in Torrance, but the paperwork I gave him was missing a required stamp for my community service. I did the community service up in Chatworth. Greg called the community service center up there and asked them to fax him a stamped copy of the completion certificate. They refused, saying he had to bring them the actual paperwork. Instead of giving up or asking me to help him, he got in his car and drove the 50 or so miles from Torrance up to the Chatworth Courthouse and got it himself (wow!). He wanted me to get the dismissal. He then returned to the Torrance Superior Court with the required red stamp and the judge dismissed the case. I really appreciate him going above and beyond for me to get the dismissal. How many attorneys would have just told their client, "sorry, no dismissal. The paperwork you gave me was incomplete." Greg, instead, fixed the problem and preserved my dismissal. I highly recommend him. I appreciate this kind of hard work. He has now allowed me to continue to pursuit my future career goals. I cannot thank him enough.

Ms. Lewis, we try to think of each client as a family member. Would I have done what I did for you if you were my daughter or wife? Yes. So I did so. We preserved the dismissal for you. We hope you never face such an emergency situation again, but if so, we hope those able to help you do so with the same sense of urgency as we had. Thank you for appreciating our efforts on this one. Respectfully, Greg Hill.

Two years ago I was arrested for shoplifting in Macy's. I hired Greg Hill & Associates, who resolved my case for no jail and small fines. The law firm then made request for early termination of my probation and the judge granted the motion. The firm then asked the judge to expunge the conviction, which the judge granted, too. As a foreign national living in US, I need this early termination of probation so that now I can travel back to my country to visit my family who still lives there. Throughout the case I was treated with respect and Mr Hill always answered my questions promptly.

Mr. Hill represented me in my case. He successfully handled the documents leading up to the hearing, making a continuous effort to communicate with the opposition. My husband and I were happy with the results Mr. Hill achieved for me. He was gracious, considerate, articulate and a strong presence in court. We highly recommend him.

Greg Hill & Associates are fast! I called them up after losing my job about two weeks earlier. I had a conviction from ten years before that employers were looking at and denying me employment. I called up Greg and they prepared a motion for expungement within about three days. They filed it and it was granted by the judge in Torrance within a week. I am now in a better position for getting work. Greg said he had never seen the paperwork granted so fast. I am glad I worked with them, as they has a sense of urgency that I appreciated. They got it done, the first try. Five Stars for sure. Worth every penny.

James, we got lucky in many respects with the speed at which your case was handled. You deserve a lot of the credit, too, as you were quick to respond to emails and quick to sign the declaration we forwarded you. Thank you for your kind review. We hope every client is as appreciative as you. Best of luck in your employment future.

The most knowledgeable attorney period. As a second time offender I was looking at certain, serious jail time but Mr.Greg Hill was unrelenting when he fought for me. He was able to argue a compelling case to the judge and I was able to avoid jail or prison time. Mr. Hill understood that I needed to be able to keep my job so I can continue to help my mother financially. I am very fortunate Mr. Hill was willing to take my incredibly difficult case, I don't believe anyone else would have fought this hard for me. Mr. Hill was always professional and kept me informed. His compassion is what makes him a unique person and is what I needed at this lowest point in my life. I am eternally in debt to you. Highly recommended!

I hired Greg Hill & Associates to expunge two convictions I had from several years ago. While I was facing one case, I picked up a second case, so navigating the expungement process was somewhat I thought ought to be done by an attorney who could avoid any problems. I called up Greg Hill & Associates and spoke with Greg. He spotted the problem of having seeking expungement of the first case before the second case, something I suspected would doom the second case, but I could not put words to. He filed everything quickly and both convictions were expunged. The prosecutor on the second case noticed the way Greg had avoided the problem and told him most attorneys would be blind to the issue and screw it up. Greg did it the right way, the first time. Very happy I hired Greg, as I was not in a better position to seek new employment prior to the expungements. Now i'm able to apply for any position due to the conviction removal/expungement. All around couldn't have asked for a better attorney. Thanks again, Greg.

Marc, your two cases and the overlapping probation periods were a bit of a trap for the unwary. We're happy to have resolved the cases like we did and get the convictions expunged in both without triggering a violation of probation. We hope you and your son never need an attorney in the future, but if either of you do, we would be honored to represent either of you. We trust all is well. Thanks for writing your nice review. We appreciate that you appreciate. Respectfully, Greg Hill.

I live in the Midwest. When I was in California many years ago I was arrested on misdemeanor charges in West Covina. Once released, I moved back to the Midwest, violating my probation, and a bench warrant was issued for my arrest. Some years later when I was financially able to make amends with this case, I called Greg Hill & Associates based on a recommendation of a family member. Greg patiently listened to my situation, explained the possible outcomes, and what he would attempt to do on my behalf. Greg Hill did an outstanding job, he not only recalled the warrant, but had the probation terminated, and had the convictions expunged all within a relatively short period of time. Greg and his office were in constant contact with me every step of the way. I highly recommend Greg Hill & Associates, because now I have more employment opportunities and a brighter future. -L.A. , Chicago-land area

Larry, thank you for your kind review. We try our best to be patient and thorough. Your case was a bit tough because the bench warrant had festered for so many years, but I'm thankful it was recalled and we eventually resolved the case and had the conviction expunged. Thanks again for your review. Much appreciated.
