Ah, it’s summer barbecue season. Ribs, corn on the cob, watermelon, baked beans, deviled eggs and homemade ice cream! Did I forget to mention pasta salad?
Ah, it’s summer barbecue season. Ribs, corn on the cob, watermelon, baked beans, deviled eggs and homemade ice cream! Did I forget to mention pasta salad? Pasta salad always makes an appearance at summer barbecues. But, like some nerdy kid no one quite remembers inviting, pasta salad always gets pushed to the back – overlooked …

They're not burnt... they're charred!
These spicy Grilled Green Beans are cooked hot and fast over very high heat. That way the interior cooks quickly before the surface gets too charred.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire. The heat in this cocktail comes from Bittermens Hellfire Habanero Shrub – an ingredient that has a permanent place in my bar. You should try some.
Ready Aim Fire is a habanero tinged mezcal cocktail made with a honey-pineapple syrup. It comes from Steve Schneider and NYC's Employees only cocktail bar.

Food trend forecasters predict, everything bagel seasoning will show up in surprising places this year. In order to stay on trend, I tried a little bit on… everything.
I always buy everything-bagels. Which, according to food trend forecasters, makes me trendy. Trend aside, my introduction to everything-bagels actually started because I couldn’t decide which bagel I liked more: garlic, onion, or sesame. Everything-bagels keep me from having to play favorites. Somewhere along the line, however, my tastes transitioned to trendy. Instead of choosing …

As spring turns to summer consider a Carrot Tatin served al fresco. It makes an impressive presentation, and it’s highly portable.
Carrots, feta, and warm, exotic spices come together in this savory tarte Tatin. Turning all your expectations about this classic French pastry upside down.

Cherries are having their big moment these past few weeks at the Hollywood farmers market. Look around and you’ll notice they’re in everybody’s ubiquitous burlap bag.
When I need a quick, savory early summer or late springtime appetizer I reach for cherries. Cherries in Endive Cups with Stilton Cheese and Pecans.

This Gem Lettuce Salad is an especially memorable take on a Caesar salad. It features a sensational dressing flavored with Worcestershire sauce, anchovies, sour cream and spicy Calabrian chiles.

A delicious reimagining of a classic Lobster Roll (without the lobster). GREG
A classic lobster roll symbolizes summer in New England. My Spicy Shrimp Roll may not be as iconic but its creamy, crunchy, sweet, and spicy.

How many fruits or vegetables does it take to make a salad? Could the answer be one?
How many vegetable components does this avocado with everything bagel seasoning have to have in order to be considered a salad? Could the answer be one?

Most of the year I mince basil for seasoning or maybe as a garnish. However, when summer rolls around I put down my knife and throw fistfuls of basil leaves into all sorts of recipes – whole! These Charred Yellow Wax Beans are not shy when it comes to basil.

Do you remember that feeling in grade-school when cutting things out of construction paper simply got to be too much and you thought to yourself – “will summer ever get here?” To me, that means it's time for a road trip.
The experimental wines, modern cooking and cutting-edge architecture overlooking non-stop views makes it a great time for a Valle de Guadalupe Road Trip.
