Story
Introduction
Extremely versatile recording engineer plying his craft in Northern Colorado. Quite comfortable working in many genres from classical through jazz, acoustic, folk musics of the world, rock to ambient. Deeply influenced by Eno, Lanois, Laswell, Martin Wieland, Rudy Van Gelder, Michael Brooks and a world of ears with imagination!

Proud father of two fantastic boys who I love spending my summers with on Lake of the Woods.

I still love playing music with my friends and take great pride in their accomplishments!

My recordings have helped our ensembles and performers win scores of Downbeat Student Recording Awards over the years.

At long last one of my favorite projects I've worked on in the past few years has been released! Northern Colorado's Genetics has been carving a nice slot for themselves in the jam band scene while honing their craft and evolving as a band. There might even be a little alto lurking in "Toss & Wash"... Let me know what you think

Some fine finger style picking from Milwaukee's Kurt Gratton. Super nostalgic for me parking my time machine back in 1975
Welcome, traveler. Rest here a while...

Really nice documentary on Brian Eno's rise to prominence between 1971 & 77. Truly an amazing period in his incredible body of work!

A blast from the past! This has always been my favorite ambient piece that Daved Reid and I produced back in the 80s and is resonating heavily for me again since I just got back from the lake… Nicely paced like a great sunset unfolding and fading away. Enjoy!

Allright Michael Twarogowski complained bitterly that I haven't posted anything from the lake yet… As they say in Lander, "I'm busy" LOL  Playing gigs, creating new ambient music, hanging with my kids and maybe a little fishing on the side!

I'm busy!!!

I finally escaped the studio long enough to play some music over the holidays. A rather Snow and Ice flavored batch of improvisations no doubt helped by the temperature dropping to -29° F while I was working on them... After 5 months of engineering other folks projects it felt good to just play for a few days!

Captured live to 2 track

These selections are from Matt Smiley & Alex Naumann's new release on Dazzle Recordings "Peaceful Contact Proved Elusive". An explorative duo guitar and bass album of probing deeply communicative improvisations and gorgeous tones. Intimate details on Matt's Blog mattsmiley.blogspot.com as well as links to purchase the album as either downloads or vinyl. I'm still waiting to check out the vinyl as I gave the cutting engineer the workout of his career… Deep appreciation for all his hard work!

Karl Markgraff & Daryl Cozzi from the Leghounds joining forces with ultra dynamic music theater powerhouse Anne Terze-Schwarz for a set of original pop tunes. This was a fun session to end this spring on before running off to Canada for the summer. All guitars & keys from Karl  with a little bass support from Patrick Atwater. All the best to Karl on his new adventures in NYC!
