Recycled smartphones are being transformed into autonomous, #solar-powered listening devices, which when placed in the #rainforest can detect and pinpoint the sounds of environmental destruction—such as chainsaws, gunshots and animal distress calls—at great distance. #treetuesday   #savetherainforest

Here’s a riddle: why would Greenpeace use its airship, which we’ve flown in the past to speak out against burning coal or overfishing, for a high-flying protest of the #NSA’s illegal #internet spying program?

So like most of us, you also couldn't make it to #Brazil to enjoy the global football fest in person? Well, take comfort in the fact that you are not contributing to the carbon emissions of traveling to Brazil to catch the games! Here are some tips for how to enjoy a greener #WorldCup  while watching on TV and online.

Greenpeace's argument is a powerful one: +LEGO  has built its reputation on making the world a better place for children, and its partnership with +Shell  doesn't resonate with that. Read more from +Wired UK
Greenpeace has created a parody video entitled Everything is NOT awesome as part of a campaign to bring to an end Lego's brand partnership with oil company Shell

Wind energy as it is today, both onshore and offshore, has a problem. It misses most of the wind.

Most of the energy which flows around the planet in the form of wind isn’t near the ground, or even above the ocean, it’s in the sky. Where – some research suggests – constant winds could meet the world’s energy needs and cut the cost of power. #sustainable   #renewable

Whoa. Fishing has already radically transformed our #oceans through a combination of illegal fishing, habitat destruction, bycatch, and just plain catching too many fish.

Story
Tagline
Greenpeace is the leading independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and to promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.
Introduction
Greenpeace has been peacefully defending the planet since 1971. By bringing together activists, supporters and people just like you, we have played a pivotal role in huge wins for the environment. Some of our victories over the years:

- Commercial whaling moratorium
- Ban on toxic waste exports to less developed countries
- Bans on dumping radioactive and industrial waste at sea
- 50-year moratorium on mineral exploitation in Antarctica
- An end to large-scale high-sea driftnet fishing
- Establishment of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary
- Ban on all nuclear weapons testing

Today, our fight to save the planet has grown more serious than ever. The threat of global warming, destruction of ancient forests, deterioration of our oceans, and the threat of a nuclear disaster loom large. Greenpeace is actively working to address these and other threats and we need your help!
