As families across the country gear up for a new school year, kids are imagining a brighter future for their schools. By transitioning to 100% renewable electricity, schools can save money to reinvest in the classroom and provide hands on experience for students with 21st century technology.

Elizabeth is just one of the Greenpeace activists have suspended themselves from St. Johns Bridge in Portland, Oregon to block a Shell Oil vessel from leaving port for Alaskan waters. The climbers have enough supplies to last several days, and are prepared to stay in Shell's way as long as possible.

+mark bouchie yup, sheer lunacy... how the Obama administration could even issue an exploratory permit after his own advising scientists told him there is a 75% likelihood of a massive oil spill if there is drilling/extraction in that very frail area. Yup, you're absolutely right.

Global tuna fisheries are out of control. They’re emptying our oceans of fish, harming marine life and exploiting workers. The Rainbow Warrior is sailing into the Pacific Ocean to confront the industry with a simple message: It’s time to #ChangeTuna - http://tuna.greenpeace.org

Story
Tagline
Greenpeace is the leading independent campaigning organization that uses peaceful protest and creative communication to expose global environmental problems and to promote solutions that are essential to a green and peaceful future.
Introduction
Greenpeace has been peacefully defending the planet since 1971. By bringing together activists, supporters and people just like you, we have played a pivotal role in huge wins for the environment. Some of our victories over the years:

- Commercial whaling moratorium
- Ban on toxic waste exports to less developed countries
- Bans on dumping radioactive and industrial waste at sea
- 50-year moratorium on mineral exploitation in Antarctica
- An end to large-scale high-sea driftnet fishing
- Establishment of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary
- Ban on all nuclear weapons testing

Today, our fight to save the planet has grown more serious than ever. The threat of global warming, destruction of ancient forests, deterioration of our oceans, and the threat of a nuclear disaster loom large. Greenpeace is actively working to address these and other threats and we need your help!
