Snack Time

Kim, our master baker, makes it very hard to stick to a strict diet. I was suppose to start the cleanse on February 1st. I came to work ready to drink my first juice when all of a sudden the sweet smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls wafted through the kitchen.
Uh oh.
It was as if I was possessed. Before I knew it, the fist sized bun had disappeared from the plate and I was scraping the icing off with my fork. It had defeated me. We are told that we shouldn't feel defeated or be too harsh on ourselves if we slip up. I unfortunately have the "all or nothing mentality". So I scraped the last bit of icing off and savored one last day of food.

For my morning "snack" juice I gathered 1 organic cucumber, 4 organic celery stalks, 2 organic Granny Smith apples, 8 leaves of organic kale, 1/2 of a large organic lemon, and an 1" of organic ginger. Make sure to serve it over ice. It tastes better and your body burns more calories digesting cold liquid.

COFFEE

I don't know about you, but the smell of freshly roasted coffee awakens some sort of deep, primal part of my being. Seeing as the United States is the leading consumer of coffee worldwide ( at 400 million cups per DAY!), chances are you fancy a cup or more a day.

Most juice fasts restrict or prohibit coffee. In an effort to curb the throbbing headache that would ensue if I was to abstain from my ritual cup 'o joe, I have made the decision to drink one cup, black. After all, caffeine has been proven to boost metabolism.

If coffee is not your thing, Green Coffee Bean Extract is another option. Green coffee beans are un roasted, containing more chlorogenic acid than their roasted counterparts. Chlorogenic acid has been shown to boost metabolism and affect how your body handles blood sugar.
