New days for controlled gas flaring — Thursday & Friday ⚠️

Atmos Energy postponed its flaring operations until later this week. Starting Thursday morning and going through late Friday afternoon, Atmos Energy crews and contractors will oversee a controlled natural gas flaring at four intersections in Greeley as a part of routine maintenance:

• 20th St. & 4th Ave.
• 22nd St. & 4th Ave.
• 20th St. & 14th Ave.
• 15th St. & 11th and 12th Ave.

People in the area will notice a large, controlled flame, and moderate noise for about three to four hours. The Greeley Fire Department, Weld County Sheriff’s Office, Greeley Police Department, city officials, and 911 operators have been advised of the flaring.

An industry-standard practice, flaring safely burns natural gas that must be removed from a pipeline before it can be worked on. Atmos has produced this video about the flaring process: https://atmosenergy.kzoplatform.com/swf/player/92.

Opportunity to Submit Written Comments on City of Greeley Ballot Measures

The City Council of the City of Greeley has referred two ballot measures to Greeley voters for the November 6, 2018 election that relate to taxes and are, therefore, considered TABOR (Taxpayers Bill of Rights) issues. The ballot issues are numbered “2O” and “2P” on the ballot.

TABOR, a 1992 amendment to the Colorado Constitution, requires that certain information about tax measures be mailed to registered voters prior to the election. Part of this information is a summary of any written comments received in favor of and opposed to the ballot issues.

The deadline to submit written comments to the Greeley City Clerk is noon on Friday, September 21, 2018, at 1000 10th Street, Greeley.

Any individual may file written comments. However, only comments meeting the following requirements will be used to create the summaries that are mailed to Greeley registered voters prior to the election:

Comments must address Greeley ballot issue 2O or 2P (label your comments as referring to Greeley ballot issue 2O or 2P).

Comments filed with the City Clerk must include a signature and voter registration address for the person submitting the comments.

Comments must be filed in writing with the Greeley City Clerk (1000 10th Street) by noon on September 21, 2018.

Comments must be filed by persons eligible to vote in the City of Greeley.
The Greeley City Clerk’s Office will accept comments filed by noon on September 21, 2018, on the following TABOR issues:
