One of the most important things to remember about your business’s website is that it should never be static. You don’t put a website together, then sit back and think it’s done. You need to keep monitoring how your website is working and performing, in order to help you work out what you need to do to make it work even harder for your business.

Google Analytics is a free tool that can allow you to see lots of information about how people are using your website. This can show you which pages are popular, which pages are hardly ever used, whether search engines or adverts are sending people to your website, and much more.

These are some key things you should find out about your website from Google Analytics:

what are the least viewed pages? This will help you understand which pages aren’t very successful or aren’t offering what your users want.
what are the most viewed pages? This will show you what people most want and value in your website.
what are the pages with the highest bounce rate? This is when users enter and exit your website on the same page, without looking through any other pages. A high bounce rate can tell you that people aren’t finding what they want on the page where they enter the website, and aren’t impressed enough by what they see to try to spend time finding whether you’ve got the content somewhere else.

Your web designer or developer should help you to find the answers to these questions. Once armed with this information, you will be able to start making informed decisions about what content to keep, remove or edit.
