Can't go wrong with this place. Knowledgeable and helpful staff, loads of quality material, and prices that are on par with any other place. I'm pretty new to fly fishing and these guys patiently answer all of my questions and spend time with me helping me decide what I need. They will not oversell you, if they feel you're better off with something less expensive, they'll tell you. I've called them while fishing the Gunpowder and even though they had no idea who I was they still answered all my 'what should I do in this scenario' questions. I still didn't catch the fish but that was my fault, not theirs... Just make sure you bring a dog treat for Jack the dog. I have no idea how many hours he puts in at the shop but he always seems to be there.

Great fly tying supplies, fly fishing gear and great advice from friendly and knowledgeable staff make this a great choice for online or in person shopping. Their excellent material selection helped me to tie very effective traditional winged wet flies, soft hackles and North Country spiders. The expertise and service are superb. This is one of the few places whose staff will talk you out of something you don't need, or point you to a less expensive alternative which will serve just as well. Good people who know their stuff make this place a great place to shop,. Online orders are fulfilled with scrupulous attention to detail and great communication. Bravo.

Decided to start fly fishing. Went to the big "sport stores" and found out that all their store clerks knew less than I did. I accidentally drove by Great Feathers and decided to stop. Met Dave B (some long name) and he was very friendly and knowledgeable on fly fishing. Knew that I was new in the sport and "hooked me up (no pun intended)" with all the right gear. It was very pleasant to shop there and I look forward to their instruction classes in the spring.

My favorite fly shop by far, especially when I'm looking for less common tying materials.

"Pick your species, pick your location, then digitally pick apart the area’s outfitters."
Photo illustration by Travis RathboneTwenty minutes after we launched on the Delaware River, the worst fishing guide I ever hired told me he hated his job and that I was stupid for expecting to catch muskies there in April. He failed to mention either of these fun facts when I first called him—and before he cashed my deposit check. That was seven years ago, and if I had taken the time to vet the guy first instead of trusting a business card, I mi...

"The water haul is particularly useful when you’re fishing a rig prone to tangling, such as a tandem nymph setup with splitshot and an indicator, or when you are casting with a right-hand wind."
Pete Kutzer of the Orvis Fly Fishing School demonstrates how to use water tension to load the rod and make a quick upstream cast. The water haul is
