The hubby and I took a fly fishing lesson from Rob a few weeks back and had an excellent time! He's knowledgable and easy going. We learned a great deal in four hours and my husband caught a lovely little rainbow trout in the process. Highly recommend for gear and fishing consult.

Great fly tying supplies, fly fishing gear and great advice from friendly and knowledgeable staff make this a great choice for online or in person shopping. Their excellent material selection helped me to tie very effective traditional winged wet flies, soft hackles and North Country spiders. The expertise and service are superb. This is one of the few places whose staff will talk you out of something you don't need, or point you to a less expensive alternative which will serve just as well. Good people who know their stuff make this place a great place to shop,. Online orders are fulfilled with scrupulous attention to detail and great communication. Bravo.

Decided to start fly fishing. Went to the big "sport stores" and found out that all their store clerks knew less than I did. I accidentally drove by Great Feathers and decided to stop. Met Dave B (some long name) and he was very friendly and knowledgeable on fly fishing. Knew that I was new in the sport and "hooked me up (no pun intended)" with all the right gear. It was very pleasant to shop there and I look forward to their instruction classes in the spring.

My favorite fly shop by far, especially when I'm looking for less common tying materials.

Can't go wrong with this place. Knowledgeable and helpful staff, loads of quality material, and prices that are on par with any other place. I'm pretty new to fly fishing and these guys patiently answer all of my questions and spend time with me helping me decide what I need. They will not oversell you, if they feel you're better off with something less expensive, they'll tell you. I've called them while fishing the Gunpowder and even though they had no idea who I was they still answered all my 'what should I do in this scenario' questions. I still didn't catch the fish but that was my fault, not theirs... Just make sure you bring a dog treat for Jack the dog. I have no idea how many hours he puts in at the shop but he always seems to be there.

"...this bug features an ultra skinny profile and just enough flash to fool the pickiest of fish. Keep this pattern sparse, which is the main trick to the effectiveness of this bug."

The very first Klympen was created during a trip to the Danish island Bornholm, but like any fly, it sure has evolved.
The Global FlyFisher - The evolution of a fly - This is the true story of Klympen - a sea trout fly pattern, which I witnessed being created - and have seen evolve into something surprisingly far from the original.

Tip for the beginners: Use forceps and nippers to tie flies when your're just getting started, later you can upgrade to a vise.
Fly tying with clamps and nippers allows beginners to start tying without the expense of a vise, and allows travelers to tie without the weight of a vise.
