Energy Efficiency: Germany vs. U.S.

+This Old House visits a home in Germany and discusses the differences between the two countries' strategies.

In Germany:
- radiant heat is used by 99% of homes since the climate requires more heating than cooling
- every home in Germany has a mandatory annual efficiency and emissions test to ensure efficiency is maintained
- each building has an Energy Pass - a report card or history of how much energy is used by the building

1/4 of their energy use will be offset by their 23.23 kW system which was installed by our ‪#‎SolarizeCincy‬ partner Dovetail Solar and Wind.

On October 2nd, we had an opportunity to speak with visitors from Egypt about Greater Cincinnati’s successes with energy efficiency and renewable energy.

This was our second presentation to international visitors as part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Leadership Program hosted locally by the Greater Cincinnati World Affairs Council.

Need a quick costume?

We recommend dressing up as Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, Ph.D. All you need is a suit, tie, 'founding father' wig and a copy of the Quadrennial Energy Review (evidently).

For more completely silly costume ideas from the Department of Energy, visit:

Happy Halloween.

ERNEST MONIZ (FAUX-NIZ?): Show everyone how big a fan you are of our nuclear physics-loving, Iran Deal-explaining, classically coiffed Secretary of Energy by dressing up as Ernest Moniz, Ph.D., this Halloween. The hair is key here -- but don’t forget your copy of the Quadrennial Energy Review, the nation’s roadmap to a smarter, more secure and more competitive energy future.

INGREDIENTS:
Suit & tie
Stylish “Founding Father” wig
Quadrennial Energy Review (get it here http://energy.gov/qtr -- only 348 pages!)
