We are invited to the 'Wheel of Fortune' tomorrow afternoon.  This is a promotional gathering at the Falkirk Wheel near Stirling http://www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk/.  Looking forward to some tea and scones while being told how we can promote the venue.  We have been to the wheel twice before for a day out with visiting friends and relatives and enjoyed the experience, so we display brochures about the wheel in the B&B.

What a year it has been for house spiders, where else but in the guest bedrooms.  Several times we have been called by guests to rescue spiders  in the bath, under the bed and running across the room. There doesn't seem to be an answer to good spider control, they can be visibe one minute and gone the next. They are difficult to grab, believe me.

Jules Howard: If your home is full of horny male spiders, relax. You may never learn to love arachnids, but you should definitely learn to live with them

Well, it is a dreich start to the 2014 season, grey skies intermittent rain and northern European coolth.  Even the bees have given up and haven't been seen foraging for days.  The weekend may see an improvement, or so the forecasters say.
We have just registered on Booking.com, it is interesting how they like to put their own spin on the accommodation description, is this what is called power-sharing?  Never mind, we live in hope of lots of bookings, that's if 'airbnb' doesn't beat us out of them.

This has been a good year with more guests staying than any year since starting in 2007.  Something to do with the very good weather in the summer, no Olympic effect drawing visitors away to the south of England and hopefully, the effect of VisitScotland marketing campaigns.  Now we are are into the last few days before we shut down till opening again in April 2014.

Good news, the two hives have survived the winter and prolonged cold spring and a large stripy queen in hive 1 is finally starting to produce brood.   The black queen in hive 2  prefers drones and not surprisingly, the workers are upset and have started a queen cell with a larva visibly floating in royal Jelly.  Let's hope it really is a supersedure female for making a new queen.

Bed & Breakfast
Traditional Scottish farmhouse near Dunfermline. Not a working farm, but has original character and garden. Mary and Tom welcome you with a promise of a comfortable stay and tasty breakfasts. We speak a little French, some German words and Italian greetings.  You can walk here from Dunfermline though it is difficult if you have much to carry, wear a hi viz vest if you are cycling and don't rely too much on your satnav if you travel by car.  Once here after looking around Dunfermline Heritage Quarter, Edinburgh Castle, Museums and Galleries may beckon and it is not far to golfing St. Andrews ,Historic Stirling (Wallace Monument and Bannockburn Centre) and the big muscular Glasgow. Perth has nice shops.
