This is the country's largest gastronomic event, with seating for 4000 visitors on long benches in the open air and inside marquees. There are 70 brands of Czech beer sourced from large breweries, regional breweries and micro-breweries, plus food specialties to taste and live bands to entertain. No need to pre-book, just turn up.
It is a student spring festival, which takes place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague this manifests itself as a parade from Jan Palacha, which is near the horse at the top of Wenceslas Square, to the Old Town Square.

Directly opposite our Grand hotel Praha on Old Town Square, will be held, the 16th International meeting of folklore groups runs over four days on an open-air stage. Folk groups travel from around the world to perform their unique style of folk music.
The race is held on Sunday 11th May, but the build up starts on Saturday 10th with a weekend of activities, including a relay marathon and a corporate team marathon. The Prague Marathon is one of the most beautiful marathon courses in the world. The race winds through the historic city centre, over bridges and along the Vltava River. 9000 runners are expected. Race starts and finishes on the Old Town Square, just opposite our Grand hotel Praha.

Though the Soviet tanks rolled in to liberate the Czech Republic a day later than elsewhere, on 9 May 1945, VE Day is celebrated annually on the 8 May, in line with the other former Communist countries "liberated" by the Russians.
An ancient folk festival, Witches' Night is a cross between Halloween and May Day and marks the end of Winter and the beginning of Spring. An effigy of a hag, or witch, said to resemble winter or perhaps a historical reference to the Czech pastime of witch-hunting, is burnt on a pyre on hill tops across the country.
