2013 Mylius 50 (15e25) – NOW SOLD

Grabau International is delighted to announce the sale of the 2013 Mylius 50 (15E25) ‘OSCAR 2’.

Simply stunning 3-cabin, 2-heads carbon composite Italian rocket-ship with high-tech build, full carbon rig and performance & thrills in spades. Beautifully constructed and ideal for fast cruising or racing.

OSCAR 2 was launched in December 2013. The owner, an architect from Padova, wanted a boat that would allow for both long spring and summer holidays whilst also allowing him to participate in some classic Mediterranean Regattas. These requirements contributed to define the layout and many furnishing details of this fantastic modern cruiser with racing vocations without compromising the level of comfort.

The interiors are in clear teak, finished with a water varnish. The master cabin has a classic configuration with double central bed and en-suite with separate shower box. The guest cabins have two double beds. The kitchen has a sink under the stairs and a vertical refrigerator. The deck, entirely covered in teak, has the primary and mainsail controls next to the helmsman position.

The Mylius 50’ is a true fast cruiser-racer, synthesis of quality, comfort, design and performance. It’s a 15 metre yacht designed to deliver the highest levels of functionality when cruising and to play first orders’ roles when racing. With a displacement of about 10 tonnes, the Mylius 50’ sailing performance guarantees great performances.

The carbon rig with wide-based and swept-back spreaders, the big main, the low-overlapping jibs and downwind asymmetric sails to rig up the mast and bowsprit ensure safety and ease of sailing with any sea and wind conditions. The deck offers exceptional usability when both cruising and racing: the large decked area, the clean contemporary lines of the coachroof and topsides with flush hatches, give the Mylius 50′ a look of extreme cleanliness. The large horizontal windows of the coachroof provides a pleasant continuity between the inside and the outside of the boat, highlighting its low and sleek profile.

The interior, with accommodation for 6/8 persons, reveal the exceptional brightness that the large window on the coach roof gives to the dining area. Different layouts offer interesting alternatives for the owner area and the sail locker.

The boat also has large areas of internal and external storage: at the bow there is a sail locker with access from the bridge, adjacent to the anchor locker and chain; in the cockpit there is a dedicated box for the life-raft; the aft garage can accommodate a tender up to 2.70 m.

We wish her new owners fair winds and following seas.

New Listing – 1998 Nautor Swan 56

Grabau International is delighted to announce the listing of the 1998 Nautor Swan 56 ‘WHY NOT’

WHY NOT is 3-owner, twin-cockpit, 2.75m draft Nautor Swan 56 from 1998. Extensively refitted and upgraded in recent seasons, so 100% good to go.

Originally launched in March 1998, WHY NOT is a three-owner twin-cockpit example of the extremely popular German Frers designed Nautor Swan 56. Extensively refitted in her current ownership, almost every aspect of her build and inventory has been reviewed, overhauled and improved from her purchase in May 2007 at Nautor’s Villfranche facility.

Please contact us for a full refit history/summary.

“Nautor’s new Swan 56, available as either a cruiser/racer or regatta model, is a powerful and elegant statement from one of the world’s premier sailboat builders. Designed by German Frers, the Swan 56 demonstrates Nautor’s renewed commitment to performance, while maintaining the essentials of structural integrity, seakindliness, comfort and safety that have earned the company an enduring reputation among demanding sailors the world over…

…Swans have always been capable upwind boats and the 56 will be no exception. Her bow features the requisite small-entry angle for speed by waterline but she also has enough of a rake to assure a clean entry. There is sufficient forefoot area to reduce pounding in a chop. The wide stern has just a trace of counter to keep the trailing edge out of the water. However, the 56’s forte, like most performance boats today, will be quick planing and blazing off-the-wind speed. Both versions of the 56 are based on the same hull shape, which carries the beam well aft, although the keel sections are different. The standard, loaded draft of the cruiser/racer is 9 feet, while the regatta’s loaded draft is a shade more than 11 feet, which should keep even the most laid-back sailors on their toes. The interior, deck and sail plans also reflect the differences between the two…

…Swan’s superb deck layouts have often been copied but rarely duplicated. The nearly flush teak deck with a wedge look and two cockpits are a Swan trademark. The aft steering cockpit features a scooped-out Destroyer wheel, a curved helmsman’s seat and nicely angled foot supports…

… once you negotiate the ladder, there is little to dislike about the 56’s interior. From the light Burmese teak veneers, to the elegant curved teak moldings, to the well-thought-out layout, the interior is stunning, in the classic, understated Scandinavian way…

…Bringing the boat up, we managed 6.8 knots without stalling at 30 to 35 degrees apparent. There was a modest bay chop, and I was impressed by the lack of any noticeable pounding up forward. There is no disputing that today’s long waterlines are fast, sometimes dramatically so, yet often there is a trade-off in upwind motion. It seems Frers has found that elusive balance between speed and motion when sailing on the wind. We were anxious to crack off on a reach and put a wave under the quarter. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough of a sea running and we didn’t have enough sail to get the boat on top of the water. Still, we clipped along at 7 and 8 knots consistently.

The Swan 56 lives up to its promise. It was intelligently conceived and beautifully finished. I have a suspicion that in a few years’ time, we will be calling the 56 the latest Nautor Swan classic.”

New Listing – 2011 Mattia 52 Catamaran

Grabau International is delighted to announce the listing of the 2011 Mattia 52 Catamaran ‘AMETISTA’

AMETISTA is hull No.2 of the Italian-designed and built vacuum-infused Mattia 52 performance cruising catamaran. Featuring updated carbon rig, membrane sails and a huge blue water inventory.

Launched in 2011 as the second in the Mattia 52 series, AMESTISTA is a particularly highly specified example of this high performance Italian cruising catamaran. Updated in recent seasons with a taller rig, her performance is blistering. In terms of specification, her highlights are many and include:
• Vacuum resin infusion hull construction
• Carbon rudders and daggerboards
• Carbon Pauger mast – 2015
• Rod rigging – 2015
• Banks membrane sails – 2015
• Furling genoa, staysail and code 0
• Fully-battened mainsail
• Harken electric winches
• Raymarine instrument package with radar and plotters
• Structural GRP bimini with stainless steel frame
• Davits with RIB
• Twin Yanmar 54hp engines with saildrives
• Schenker watermaker
• Webasto diesel heating
• Three large double cabins with ensuite heads and separate shower cubicles
• Light oak joinery throughout

This 15m catamaran is the result of long work of the designers of which include names such as Henry Contreras , owner of the shipyard, Roberto Prever and George Provincial , who have drawn the water lines, while Marco Vaglia has occupied with design and interior ergonomics.

According to the designers themselves, the strengths of this new catamaran, all made in Italy, are the elegance and design of the deck, the comfort of navigation, superior performance combined with good maneuverability in all situations.

The shape of the hulls of the two hulls have been studied and optimized to ensure a very gentle entry on the wave, so as to reduce the pitch and the hydrodynamic drag to progress to a minimum . The hulls and deck, in order to minimize weight, were made using the vacuum infusion technique. In this way a better catalysis and a greater resistance to degenerative processes such as osmosis and stratified delamination are guaranteed.

The interiors can be customized thanks to the modularity of the spaces. This even allows you to take advantage, behind the bed area, of two large spaces where you can install a technical area or crew cabins.

From the photos of the first interior designs, you immediately notice the refinement of the Italian style that combined with the deckhouse line, with large windows, allows optimal lighting of the square, amplifying at the same time the feeling of space and comfort.

We hope to be able to try it in the water and check its sailing characteristics that should be at the top of the range, thanks to the generous canvas surface that exceeds 125 square meters. – October 2010

Vismara Marine goes trophy hunting!

The 2018 racing season is now in full swing with Vismara Marine yachts resuming their places at the front of the fleet.

8 months after the success in the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, the Vismara Marine Mills 62 RC SUPERNIKKA, owned and helmed by the Pisan entrepreneur Roberto Lacorte won the Maxi Yacht Capri Trophy awarded in the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, an event that brought together some of the most beautiful and fastest Mediterranean boats on the Italian island.

While SUPERNIKKA conquered yet another triumph, almost 400 km away, another Vismara Marine yacht stood out with a great victory: that of the 2003-launched Vismara V50 MISTRESS in the “100 Miglia” of Montecristo, a spectacular regatta that winds between the islands of Tuscan archipelago, departing from Piombino and arriving in San Vincenzo. V50 Mistress, already victorious in SuperCapraia last April, was helmed by the owner Marco Marioni and crewed by Grabau International’s very own Michele Antonini.

New Photos – Camper & Nicholson 24m Ketch

Grabau International are delighted to publish a brand new set of photos of the Camper & Nicholsons 24m Ketch ‘LORD JIM’.

Built by the world-renowned Camper & Nicholsons at their Southampon shipyard, LORD JIM was completed in 1977 to the very highest of specifications and in accordance with the rigorous Lloyds 100A1 class rules.

Designed for circumnavigation duties in her first private ownership, she benefits from a surprisingly slippery hull shape, powerful twin Detroit diesel engines (giving effortless double digit extended cruising speeds), an easily managed ketch rig configuration and most importantly, a bullet-proof steel hull to protect her occupants in any and all conditions. LORD JIM is in many respects, the ultimate all-weathers world-girdler.

Within her 6mm-plated steel hull and aluminium superstructure is the most beautifully crafted mahogany interior providing supreme levels of comfort and versatility for 6 guests in the aft end in three luxurious ensuite cabins and 5 crew in three further cabins in the forward sections. Her raised pilothouse and offers all-year round comfort along with excellent protection to her outside cockpit areas, whilst her prominent raised bulkwarks and stainless steel guardrails allow safe passage around her teak-laid deck areas.

Following a colourful and well-travelled life in her early ownerships, LORD JIM was acquired by her current owners in 2000 and extensively refitted for further circumnavigation duties and coded for luxury fully-crewed charter. With circa £1 million invested in her over recent years with refits completed in 2001, 2008, 2011/12 and a further £100k spent in 2017, LORD JIM is presented for sale in fantastic ‘ready-to-go’ condition. Freshly MCA-2 coded in 2017, she can easily continue her life as luxury charter vessel, or be used once again to head off on a private family adventure around the world’s oceans.

Having acquired and lovingly restored Lord Jim, our Camper & Nicholsons bespoke 24.42 metre (80 ft) steel sailing ketch, we set about sailing around the world. This was a true test and testimony to the quality and engineering used when Lord Jim was built in 1976. Previous to our ownership, Lord Jim was built specifically to sail round the world for an owner whose mission was to amass the finest worldwide shell collection!

On return to the builders yard in Southampton (UK) some four years later and after extensive shell cataloguing in London, the owner was short of some specimens and set off again on another round the world voyage. Sadly, on return to Southampton some 18 months later, he died suddenly and Lord Jim was sold on.

LORD JIM was subsequently re-rigged and re-fitted in Southampton. Becoming a wealthy businessman’s floating hotel was to be her next destiny, sailing from Cannes to Palma during the children’s summer holidays (nothing more, nothing less). After which she was left to await the next family break.

And then there was us! She was beautiful, but neglected – like a greyhound never let off its lead, in need of vision, money and care. Refitted by us in Malta, ready for her epic journey to the Caribbean, through the Panama Canal, passing the Galapagos Islands down through the South Pacific to New Zealand for The Americas Cup. Onward to Australia up past Darwin and then a quick sprint to Thailand. A trek across the Indian Ocean, up the Red Sea, through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean and finally back to the UK.

** Recent Huge price reduction from GBP590k. Part exchanges with smaller modern production sailing yachts may be considered **
