Coin of the Week: 1944 50 Cent Walking Liberty BU D-Day

It was risky. The entire force might have been pinned down on the beaches and slaughtered, and a defeat would mean a German victory in World War II. But, General Eisenhower went ahead with the invasion of Normandy, on D-Day 1944. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., the mint was striking these 1944 Walking Liberty 90% Silver Half Dollars.

Where can I find one of these giant gold nuggets?!

First, a 145-ounce gold nugget was found in Australia, and then an 18-ounce gold nugget was found in California. The man discovered the gold nugget approximately 60 miles outside of Stockton, California in a river.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be panning for gold over at the nearest river…
The find comes only a couple of weeks after it was reported that a 145-ounce nugget made headlines when it was unearthed in Australia.

This half dollar coin was struck in 1936, two years before the 75th anniversary of Gettysburg, which was one of the most pivotal of the Civil War battles. Each half dollar was struck in 12.50 grams of 90% fine silver and depicts the Union and C.S.A. shield on the reverse. Take a look!

Celebrate Three Decades of an American Classic!

American One-Ounce Silver Eagle Proofs are already the perfect way to collect the best of this iconic coin classic. In 2016, there’s something so uniquely special about these Silver Eagle Proofs that no other Silver Eagle - proof, uncirculated or circulated - can claim!

Instead of a reeded edge, each 2016 Silver Eagle Proof has a smooth edge with the phrase "30th Anniversary" engraved right below Liberty’s feet. It’s a first and, to date, the ONLY time this will ever be produced on a Silver Eagle!

Do you understand the coin grading system?

Coin grading can be a confusing topic (especially for newcomers), and last month’s ANA proposed a new grading system that would help supplement the current grading system, with hopes of making each grade more clear.
