Sometimes, I get so busy with personal and professional commitments (including running my own consultancy) that I miss out on key events….meaning that you, the reader, miss out on great community-oriented tech gatherings in Chicago. However, consider this week’s post a great wrap-up of an event back in June….as well as drive interest for the... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/one-cause-at-a-time/2016/07/tech-month-chicago-what-we-missed/" clas...

Via +ChicagoNow - a great book highlighting nonprofit leadership lessons from Star Trek
Books on nonprofit leadership often run the gamut from very high-level treatises to more down-to-earth entries like The Mission Myth and Who Says It’s A Man’s World? However, in an increasingly complex field, transitioning into nonprofit leadership (as well as social enterprise and other mission-driven leadership) can be a challenge. In fact, for many, it’s a challenge... <a href="http://www.chicagonow.com/one-cause-at-a-time/2016/07/nonprofit-le...

Happening Ten Years Time Ago
This was where I lived in St. Louis. Pretty cool, huh?   Funny how the smallest things can lead to greater insights. This past weekend, I spent some time in my yearly clean-up/organizing efforts - going through papers, tearing up and prepping for recycling,...

Mondays With Columbo: CANDIDATE FOR CRIME
Columbo  episodes work best through a variety of factors: a seemingly simple murder that has a major, unseen complication; opportunities for Columbo to interact in a world not his own; and most importantly, an engaging antagonist - one who can be either cha...

Review: DOC SAVAGE - THE SINISTER SHADOW
Crossover and team-up books are standard in comics. It makes a certain amount of sense: having brightly colored heroes team up to take on large threats make really  good illustrations. Making a similar team-up work in a pulp/prose format...might be trickier...

Where Stories Come From: PULPTERNATIVE - Cowboy of the Dakotas
I'm a sucker for alternative history stories - everything from Harry Turtledove's How Few Remain to What If? series . Maybe it's all the Doctor Who  I watched throughout my life, so when the chance came to write my own alternative history story for Pro Se's...
