Now if only we can hide those massive cards in the upper left corner that takes up way way way way too much viewable map area.

Are you going to make mobile google maps with possibility of creating a route with a few stops?

Thanks, I've been waiting for this feature!

This is gonna help big time on my next crop circles project.

Oh hey, it's that feature we had many years ago on classic maps that got removed for the new and improved version.

+Google Maps can we please have the option to rename locations to names suit us like grandparents, siblings names etc...

Bring it back to Android app too.

One feature I've requested is to be able to find the halfway point between two points, and ideally to be able to search for a meeting place halfway between two points.

Awesome! I can finally stop switching back to classic maps ...

Also: it does great circle routes... which can be cool to play with.

I thought this would allow me to set up a customized path for my next run :) :(...

Finally, I can stop reverting back to the classic maps to measure distances. Thanks!

Have waited this function

This is a great looking tool, and it works well for what it does.  However, it needs to have a small icon somewhere on the map screen so that users know it exists.  I bet a lot of people will never find it buried under the "right click" option.  Add a button to the map screen please!

why i could not use google map in China in past few days

I find it incredibly odd that Maps and Maps Engine Lite/Pro have completely separate distance measurement tools that look and act differently.  MEL/P has had this tool for a little while now.  There it will also measure area if you close off a shape.  This one looks better with the built in ruler/scale on the line, but the one in MEL/P has a nice blue color.  MEL/P also has a nice little button up at the top to let you know it exists (see my previous comment). Does the Google Maps left hand know what the right hand is doing?  It doesn't appear so.  That these two mapping applications are getting the same but different kinds of tools further demonstrates to me the obvious: that these two products should never have been separated.  That decision was, in my opinion, the most regrettable decision that Google ever made regarding mapping applications.  Now features have to apparently be developed twice by different teams, who design slightly different tools, which leads to user frustration when the one product works differently from the other to do similar tasks.  I beg google leadership to stop the madness and bring the mapping applications together again.

Looks fine! Now, as others say, add an icon, please. The context menu thing is anything but intuitive. Also, it would be great to see the profile of the path.

Thanks G Maps! Some one listened!

Good start. Next, auto routing on the measurement would be nice - see gmap-pedometer.

Great, thanks +Google Maps . Next...

Thanks Google! Great JOB! Looking forward to this tool in the mobile Android version of maps? !

i ve tested it with my home town. z is not recognized. horizontal streets are just as long as mountain roads - sometimes longer ... ;). is it not possible to use the z axis?
but ... the functionality is basically great ... thanks google ... :)

G R E A T ??? GMaps had this and many other GREAT features years ago & then removed them , for some unknown [ marketing?] reason.

Nice. And it would be even nicer if you could save the distance measuring in some way.
