Celebrating the first passenger train journey in India

On 16 April,1853 India witnessed the first passenger train service, when 14 railway carriages carrying about 400 guests left Bori Bunder  for Thane "amidst the loud applause of a vast multitude and to the salute of 21 guns."

Our little salute (no guns!) is a doodle on our home page www.google.co.in dedicated to the day and in tribute of all those who make the Indian Railways the Lifeline of India.

Hope you like it :)
