Meet Sabita Malla, Glass Explorer and senior research officer for +World Wildlife Fund Nepal. Celebrate #EarthDay with Sabita as she explores how Glass can help in her mission to protect rhinos.

Sabita uses custom Field Notes Glassware, software that was developed by a Glass Explorer who wanted to help WWF cut in half the work required to manage field conservation efforts. Sabita’s team is one of five nonprofits exploring how Glass might amplify their impact as part of Giving through Glass, a program we launched a few months ago in partnership with +Google.org: goo.gl/AT9obZ

We’re extending the program for another round starting today. Nonprofits can apply now through May 20 at g.co/givingthroughglass. Five nonprofits will win: Glass, a $25,000 grant, a trip to a Google office and a connection to Glass developers.

And if you’re a Glass developer who wants to partner with a nonprofit and code for impact, sign up now at goo.gl/IeRjnk.

You should develop a mind reading app. :) Would be so cool if I could share my thoughts translated into text to another glass user at a meeting without disturbing the meeting.

Thought to text technology. ;) It can be done. Don't ask me how to decode brainwaves and compare it to known patterns for example. :) Not my speciality. But Google. You can do it! Do it please. =D

+Jake Wilson Then I guess you must think all rules to sweepstakes be silly, eh?

Or would you rather they just not choose a time to start?

Have questions about Glass? #askanexplorer

Ask an Explorer

Tomorrow Google is offering a brief window to sign up for +Google Glass. Are you considering Glass, but have a few questions first? Feel free to post in the comments and I or fellow Explorers will do our best to answer them.

If you'd prefer a live format, we will also host an open Hangout later today at 8PM (PDT). Current Explorers are welcome to join and help answer questions, but be sure to save room for those who are still deciding.

Also, if you're an Explorer who would like to share your time today, please use the hashtag #askanexplorer  to notify your fellow Explorers. Cheers!

#GlassUpdates are back with KitKat for Glass, photo bundles & more

You’ve been asking us when the next round of updates were coming. Well, they’re coming later this week! We know it’s been a little while, but this is a big one and we think it’s well worth the wait. Here’s what you’ll find in the new release:

KitKat for Glass – Our most exciting update is subtle, but big. We’ve been working on a significant upgrade to a new version of the Glass software. It’s not a change you can see, but it brings improved battery life and makes Glass more reliable and easier to update in the future. And now that Glass runs Android KitKat, developers can write Glassware using the latest Android SDK goodness, along with new features from our GDK.

Photo bundles – This one has been a long-standing request from our Explorers: now when you scroll through your timeline, your photos, videos and vignettes from each day will be organized in bundles so that you can swipe less and see more.

Photo replies in Hangouts – Photo sharing has been really popular amongst our Explorers, so we’ve added new ways to send photos in Hangout messages. The next time someone asks “what’s up,” tap “Reply” and then take a photo to show them. (If you already took the perfect photo, you can still tap to “Send” it in a Hangout message.)

Sending feedback – We always want to hear feedback from you on ways we can make Glass better so we’re making it even easier. Tap on the device info card in Settings and tell us what’s on your mind. If you need help, you can still send us an email, call us, or post in the Explorers Community.

Voice command sorting – With new features and Glassware, your voice command menu has grown pretty long. When you tap or say “ok glass,” voice commands are now sorted by recency and frequency, making it easier to see the commands you use most often and faster to access them from the touch menu.

Video calls – We hold ourselves to high standards for the features that we build, and video calls aren’t living up to these standards. Explorers have told us so directly, and fewer than 10% of them use video calls. For this reason, we’ve made the hard decision to remove video calls from Glass until the experience is better. We don’t know when that will be, but in the meantime, keep an eye on MyGlass as more Glassware is built and released – we’re already seeing the developer community work on other video streaming services. We’ve always said that feedback from Explorers shapes Glass, and this is no exception.

…and more – This is a massive update and we couldn’t fit all the changes into this post, so watch the Glass Journal in the Explorers Community to see the rest.

Can't get Livestream to work after latest Glass update.  Tried re-installing, still nothing. OK Glass Livestream does not do anything now.  I contacted Livestream about this last week, still no reply. Anyone else having issues after the update?  Worked fine before the update to Glass.  I've quickly run out of options to stream and I've got a demo to do in a couple of weeks that needs this capability.

#GlassUpdates: SMS for iPhone and new Calendar Glassware

Didn’t expect to see us back so soon, did you? Now that we’ve finished upgrading your Glass software to Android KitKat, we plan to bring you faster updates. We’ve got a few new goodies coming later this week:

SMS for iPhone – iOS fans, by popular demand you can now get texts from your friends on Glass. Get started by going to your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and turning on “Show Notifications” for your paired Glass. When you receive a new text message, it will appear as a notification on Glass. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to reply from Glass due to some limitations with iOS. (Android fans, don’t feel left out – you’ve got SMS on Glass already.)

Calendar Glassware – On the Glassware tab in MyGlass, you’ll see a new Calendar Glassware. Turn it on to see your agenda to the left of the home screen. Tap a calendar card from your timeline and you can change the title, time, location, and RSVP as well as delete the event or dismiss it from your timeline.

These changes will be headed your way in the next few days – stay tuned!

Great! Next, can you come up with a way to clear our timelines or am I missing something? I can't easily get to what I want because of junk in the timeline! Maybe I'm missing something?!

Wow, what a morning! We’re happy to see so many new faces (and frames) in the Explorer Program.  Just a quick update that – ack – we've sold out of Cotton (white), so things are moving really fast.

You can still purchase Glass and join the Explorer Program at glass.google.com/getglass, but hop to it because we’ll be closing up shop tonight.

Today’s the day to become a Glass Explorer

We let the cat out of the bag, you marked your calendars, and the time has finally arrived. If you're a US resident who is 18+, you can purchase Glass and join the Explorer Program at glass.google.com/getglass

The Explorer bundle costs $1500+tax and includes your favorite shade or frame, a charger, a case and a mono earbud. As an Explorer, your feedback will help to shape how Glass evolves over time.

We’ve got a limited number of spots available, so don’t wait too long – we can't wait to meet you and hear about your first adventures with Glass.

I'm sitting here seeing people complaining about an exclusive product not being avaliable halfway across the world. I'm in canada and I still can't buy it. 1500 is probably the real issue though...

Head up, hands free: Glass Guide Sachit put this video together so his parents could see what it was like to climb the face of Half Dome #throughglass. Don't let the cables scare you. He knows what he’s doing.

Getting technology out of the way
Introduction
We started Project Glass to build technology that’s seamless, beautiful and empowering. To share the world through your eyes. To get answers and updates, instantly. To be there when you need it, and out of your way when you don’t.

We’re inviting a small group of Explorers to help us discover the full potential of Glass. Follow us on our journey, and help us shape the future.
