Get ready for school next year with Google Docs!
It may be summer but it's never too early to start thinking about how to "ace" your classes next year. See how Google Docs can help:

Read about adding a Table of Contents, using the Research Tool, or inserting relevant links right within a Google Doc. #googleedu

Working with images in Google Docs, Slides and Drawings just got easier with two new features:

1. Reset an image: Unhappy with the properties and formatting you applied to your image? You can now go back to the original with the reset image button. Open your document, presentation or drawing, select an image, right-click and select 'reset image' from the context menu.

2. Replace an image: Change the image in your document, presentation or drawing without affecting the layout and formatting of the original image. Open your document, presentation or drawing, select the image you want to replace, right-click and select 'replace image'. You can then use our image picker to select your next image.

Yesterday, we launched a bunch of big updates to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. To make sure you didn’t miss anything, here’s a quick summary of everything you need to know.

First, there’s an all-new Slides mobile app and updated Docs and Sheets apps, all of which work with and without a data connection, and now let you edit Microsoft Office files without converting them. You can also now edit Office files in your Chrome browser with the new Chrome extension ( New home screens for each of the editors are coming soon at,, and, where you can quickly get to your most recently edited documents, spreadsheets, and presentations from your browser. Plus, we’re introducing a whole new way to collaborate with Suggested Edits in Docs.

In Drive, we not only updated the mobile apps and started rolling out the next generation of Drive on the web, we also launched Google Drive for Work. This new service provides the security and administrative controls businesses need, coupled with a simple $10/month/user pricing plan that includes access to the entire Google Apps suite and comes with unlimited storage in Google Drive.

Read up on all the details here:

Oh and one more home screens on the web
As you hopefully saw in our post earlier today, Docs, Sheets, and Slides got some major updates to help you get work done on any device, any time, on any file. But there’s one more thing that we still need to tell you about.

Since launching the mobile apps, many of you have asked for a consistent experience on the web that makes it easy to get back to your most relevant and recently edited documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be gradually rolling out new home screens for Docs, Sheets, and Slides on the web, similar to what you have seen on mobile, at:

Your most recently edited documents are available right at the top, you can quickly create something new with a click on the + button, edit Office files by installing the new Chrome extension (, and once you enable offline editing, everything on your home screen is editable even when you’re not connected to the Internet.

Stay tuned to the links above—the new home screens will be rolling out to everyone over the next couple of weeks.

Want to share files on the go? Grab and share the link to a file directly from the Google Drive app on your phone by selecting the "File Info" button and then, depending on your device, choosing either "Get Link" (iOS) or "Share Link" (Android). It's that easy!

It’s easy to convert Office files to Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. But sometimes you need to open, edit, and share a file in its original format.

The new Docs, Sheets, and Slides Android apps come with Office editing built right in (iOS is on the way). Just tap on a .docx, .xlsx, or .pptx file from your app’s home screen, or even from an attachment in Gmail, and you’ll be able to edit it without any conversion. Then tap the share button to send a copy back in its original format.

The same thing works from your browser with the new Chrome extension ( Once installed, you can open and edit Office files directly from the new Drive, Gmail, your local storage, third-party websites, or our new home screens ( Please note that the new Drive is rolling out over the next week.

Check out the Help Center for more info on getting started with editing Office files in Docs, Sheets and Slides:

+Chad Kafka I am shocked to hear the problem #1 with the new version! I knew it was heading worse when they renamed collections to folders because by definition you can have multiple collections. I hope now they at least implement tags.
