With Google I/O behind us, the Spiral 1 FPGA-based platform and prototype for Project Ara is now complete. We expect MDK 0.12 to remain stable for the next few months throughout the 1st prize challenge (announced at I/O and detailed at www.projectara.com/prize). We are also starting to manufacture dev boards for prize challenge participants and other interested parties. The first batch should go out to developers by the end of July.

So what’s next? Last week, we kicked off the Spiral 2 Ara platform design. We expect it to culminate in a MDK 0.20 release and an ASIC-based prototype device in October. And we will have another developer conference in November. We welcome nearly a dozen new performers to our Spiral 2 design team, including our hardware design partner, Quanta Computers, and Linaro, our software partner for generic class kernel drivers and Android hot-plug support.

We are thrilled by the level of interest the Ara platform has drawn from developers. We encourage prospective developers to continue to share their module ideas and status of development efforts on the Ara Developers Forum (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ara-module-developers). And feel free to tell us what you are up to at ara-dev@google.com.#ProjectAra

Sup! I was one of the 100 Dscouts that gotten chosen, but I haven't heard anything about when we would be introduced to the beta. When can we expect to hear about it?

Here's a little video we put together for #ProjectTango. Now that's innovation in the open! Check out our live stream on Thursday, 9am PDT for more! #ATAP #io14 [http://goo.gl/vg5Fkr]

Project Tango wouldn't be possible without the decades of research from around the world that has gone into computer vision and robotics. We thought it appropriate to highlight some of this great work and show how it has direct impact on the future of mobile devices with a more human-like sense of space and movement.

These are just a small portion of the many great engineers whose work has gone into Project Tango. But it's some amazing stuff and I hope everyone enjoys this look behind the scenes of some phenomenal research labs.

Having designed and constructed several different sensing systems that might be useful with handheld displays, including but not limited to tablets and phones, I would like to know the contact information for the correct individual(s) to present this to.

A new mobile format? Shorts made uniquely for mobile. Not for the big screen shown on a little one. A future where you have a film festival in your pocket? Maybe. Just maybe. #ATAP #io14 Session kicking off in less than an hour. Watch the live stream!

The marriage of art and technology resulting in Duet is amazingly beautiful.
Wonderful to see the talent of Glen Keane showcased this way.
Can't wait to see it on an Android device soon.
Do ATAP pirates often get dust in their eyes watching this? ;)

Today, developers excited about Project Tango can start building using the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit. Created in close collaboration with NVIDIA, the development kit includes the new Tegra K1 mobile processor to create a platform designed for computer vision and 3D sensing. You can use the Project Tango Tablet Development Kit to make applications that track full 3-dimensional motion and capture surfaces in the environment.

To learn more about the Project Tango Development Kit, go to http://g.co/ProjectTango.

The future is awesome.
