Rather long so please bear with me.
This is just my opinion but a lot of people think golf needs Tiger.
I for one don't.
Tiger came along when the game needed a new hero, someone to replace the legends of the game like Palmer,Nicklaus,Player and Watson, just like these name replaced the likes of Snead,Hogan and Nelson.
Sure there were other players such as Ben Crenshaw, .Billy Casper and Hale Irwin, that were part of the mix.
But Tiger captured a new generation of younger players, and viewers to the game of golf.
Also,Tiger came along with the likes of Phil,Seve,Norman and Els.
But like Tiger those players are either retired, deceased,or past their prime.
But all of these players bridged the generation from one era to the next.
Today, you have the likes of Speith,Day,Fowler,
McIllroy, now even Dustin Johnson.
Just my opinion,no one wants to see a player past his prime,or battling career injuries coming back just for the sake of having that player in the field, or on the flip side being the main story as he drives away from yet another tournament after withdrawing because of those injuries.
The problem with Tiger, imo, is simple
It's his ego.He still wants to win,but can he really be competitive with the likes of these new young guns?
He is after all 40,soon to be 41.
Sure Jack won his last major at 46,but how many players have there been to win a Major after the age of 40.Three I think.
Tiger Woods dominated golf like no other player except Jack.
But Jack knew when it was time.
Does Tiger? Tiger says he will return when he feels like he can compete, but hitting 3 balls in the water during a photo shoot,or chipping in
his back yard is not competition.
It's practice, and only Tiger can determine how his practice ,and is rehab is going.
Would I like to see him back on tour?
Yes,but only when he can complete four rounds in a tournament that is loaded with this new generation of talent!
