Run, don't walk, away from this company. Even if you thought "it can't be that bad", I assure you it's worse. Terrible experience, from move day on. Move was awful, had extensive damage to both properties and personal effects. When you realize you are actually going to have to start a claim you feel good about the decision you made before the move when the movers asked " Do you want additional coverage because they're only responsible for $.30 per pound" and you said yes. Only to learn at the time you need to file the claim that what they ACTUALLY did was have you declare that the TOTAL value of the shipment what that amount. Sure later they'll point you to an email they sent that states what your choices were, but I assure you what they SAY the day of moving, during the confusion of all the estimates you have to sign, is this is for additional insurance and "just put that in the box here". They say a picture is worth a 1000 words, well unfortunately I can't post them here of the: upside down armoire; the shredded mattress (dropped from second story); the punctured and scratched leather chairs(2); the broken antique box (dropped); the scratched and gouged media cabinet, bed frames (3), nightstands (2), credenza, buffet, dining table (leg put though a wall); destroyed art; chipped, scratched, dented armoire; missing boxes; dented and gouged bookcase and dresser - but I will be creating a blog soon so people can see first hand what truly careless and care less operators these folks are. I'll update with that address if I'm able. But, they really do feel bad about your experience and hope you'll consider them again, so that's nice.

If you want terrible customer service, then use Golan movers. Awful. My family member attempted to use them for a move recently that was supposed to happen on Saturday. They called on Thursday night to tell her that they needed to cancel because their movers were on strike. Now I understand that things happen, but here is the thing - they knew about the strike earlier in the week and waited basically till the last minute. We asked that they compensate us for either some of the boxes or the extra few hundred dollars it took to book a new mover last minute. There answer was basically a somewhat polite go F yourself. In terms of customer service, they give comcast a run for their money. There are lots of movers out there. Do yourself a favor and use someone else. Probably the worst customer service experience we've had in the last five years.

I will say the two gentleman who moved my product were very polite and tried to do the best they can, however, I paid $195 dollars to have one item moved and though they busted their butts, my deceased mothers china cabinet still ended up with very nasty chunks of wood taken out of the side at the bottom. I actually heard it happen but the thought of paying 195 plus a couple bucks to buy a coffee because it was cold for nothing more than a damaged item (it was a 5000 dollar china cabinet) is far less than what is expected and is typical of today's business acumen. 99% is not acceptable as I could have chipped the cabinet myself and kept the 200 in my pocket. Unfortunately effort is nothing and result is everything. To be quite honest I would now like to throw my Mother's china cabinet in the alley because looking at it really disgusts me. Again could have done that where it was and kept the 200 in my pocket.

Working with this company was the worst experience I have ever had dealing with a service business. It comes down to a complete disregard for customer service on their part. I am the kind of person who is happy to deal with difficulties in a process if the end result is alright, and will even be okay if the end result isn't right if there is good customer service resolution. Unfortunately, Golan's failed miserably on both accounts. I moved from Chicago to NYC in July 2014. My employer was paying for the move, so I was less price sensitive, although the number of fees and extra charges not initially given at the estimate kept racking up. The movers, though nice guys, could not follow directions at all, I would say pack these three items and leave the fourth, they would pack everything. Nonetheless, not out of the ordinary for moving. However, when the shipment was made, on the inventory list one of the boxes was listed as not even having been checked into warehouse. That was three weeks prior and the company had made no effort to let me know, or to try to resolve. I sent an email right away to the company and got no response for a few days. The box had a TV in it, among other things, which I think explains its disappearance. Anyways, I had booked the most expensive insurance coverage and called thinking this would be an easy resolution. No such thing. Golan's uses a third party claims service which I am just in the process of working with, but it makes it as painful as possible so that if you are a busy person, it is very difficult to deal with. What really made this bad however, is that when I called to get confirmation on my insurance, they told me that I had elected for minimal coverage. Despite having an email from them showing I had chosen max coverage, they said that I had changed it on the date of the move, even though the guy doing the pickup had no asked at all about that, and on the contract I have from that day, there is nothing checked off or signed in the box for Waiver of Full Replacement Value. Nonetheless, when I tried to understand why the company was making it so difficult to process a claim for something I had ordered insurance for, and for a box they had lost (weeks prior by their own records), their "customer service" person who handles claims (Julie G), was unbelievably awful. Not interested at all in my satisfaction as a customer, completely hung up on the internal bureaucracy (almost every question, including, do you know how long the claims process usually takes, was "I don't know, I don't handle that"). When I suggested that I really hoped we could find a resolution without involving other parties, like legal counsel, she erupted in rage, began yelling, insisted I was threatening her personally while making her own threat that all of this would not help my case (which I took to mean she would work internally to not help resolve me getting reimbursement). It was just a very unpleasant experience, and not how I would expect to be spoken to having just given them more than $4K for a very low quality service. Anyways, off to the claims process! Just do yourself a favor and avoid doing business with these guys. The sales staff are very charming, but remember they are not moving your stuff or dealing with problems on the other end, those people are largely incompetent and nasty. Even if you think you have a good price, I can guarantee you they will find a way to increase it (they added a fee on mine on delivery day for having to rent a smaller truck to navigate NYC, when I called to ask they said they hadn't expected their truck to have a hard time parking in New York City and needed a smaller one, how could they have possibly known New York City is congested?!?!?)

If there was a no star rating that is what I would give Golan's. Firstly, the staff sucks! Worst customer service ever! They have absolutely no compassion for people during a process that is difficult and often times frustrating. I was charged 850 to move furniture out of my small, one bedroom apartment to their storage in Skokie. Their movers purposefully took their sweet time and I noticed that they showed up with a quote written up for 5 hours of moving when they got there. For three professional movers this was no more than a 3 hour job and that is being very generous. I felt I had no choice but to hire different movers to get my furniture out of their storage and into my new place. When I called to reserve a time to pick up my furniture I was informed by an extremely rude staff member (Tom Hildum) that the only window they ever have available for me to pick up my furniture is 9-10am. Ridiculous! They only offer a one hour window, really!? This company is a joke! Beware.

Evidently, they had a union "issue" and told us they couldn't move my fiance and I the day before we were scheduled to move out. At 6:00 p.m. Everybody else is closed or booked. We were leaving to go on vacation the day after. I'm sure they're sorry, though. . . .
