A cute Crimson-breasted Woodpecker from Budang-Pendam birding area. That was valentine's day; in the afternoon when we were out for birding on a birding trail above hill we saw Mr XYZ foraging alone in search of Mrs ABC and calling sometimes in typical note. 😍

English Name: Crimson-breasted Woodpecker
Latin Name: Dendrocopos cathpharius

On day one, when all the participants photographed Common Green Magpie and White-crested Laughingthrush; we started driving towards Yuksom and light was going down very fast.

As we crossed Tashiding, just near a small khola the sudden movement drew my attention and I told participant to be ready. Of course, it was a nocturnal mammal and with sheer excitement in mind, I told them not to rush towards it.
Following my words, only one participant Asim Haldar moved out of the vehicle and got the perfect shot. It was not within the scope of Canon 7D to capture the beauty at ISO 6400 and shutter speed of 1/15 to get a picture perfect image. However, Asim Haldar got a better image, which he posted previously. Previously have heard of this elusive mammal only, this time got the beauty. Hope you would also enjoy visiting Khangchendzonga with us, for the upcoming season mail us at support@goingwild.in for details.

The old rhino was wounded at many places, probably the outcome of a fight with an adversary. A Jungle myna kept pecking at his wounds in regular interval... Blood kept flowing!
