Today's guest article by +Adam Meyers (his second) is all about "useless" skills. That's not a new topic, but his approach is new: He addresses them from the perspective of the players, the GM, and the campaign.
I'm currently playing my favorite dwarf in a game. He has Profession(Chef), despite being a fighter/barbarian. Mostly because his life goal is to find the perfect food (by killing and eating one of everything).
I've found that the more mature I and my players become (I've been gaming since in high school and I just graduated college; definitely a time in our lives where we grow A LOT), the more useful those "useless" skills are. Go figure.
