Promotional mail has a lot of images, from pictures of snazzy new shoes to photos of that rock climbing gym you’ve been wanting to try. To help you find what you’re looking for faster, you can now sign up for a new field trial (g.co/gmailfieldtrial) for Gmail that lets you view the Promotions tab in a more visual and engaging way: https://goo.gl/nFZIxE

Yes, Google, because we certainly want billboards in our email.

Meh, even if I used the tabs.

A move to placate all the marketers who are squawking no one will see their ads now it's all funneled into a separate tab?

Makes me want to migrate to Microsoft email.... It's clean and organized

Interesting move for Gmail. This will certainly spark marketers interest, but in the long run, and if this is fully adopted, it will help to separate good brands from bad ones. Those who don't adapt to offer good content will be completely ignored.

I love this idea. I have no idea what I want to look at based on the 90 emails with words, pictures will make it so much easier!

+Richard Rubinkowski You care enough to complain twice, apparently. If you're not interested in things related to Gmail, just uncircle the page. It's really not so difficult. There's not a single person or page I follow on G+ that always posts something I want to read, 100% of the time. But I don't publicly complain, because there's really no need. Just move on with your life, it's not a big deal.

Awesome job +Gmail!  Not only have you given us a way to automatically categorize our email, so that we only have to see what we want when we want to, but you have also made it quick and easy to digest the information when we do want to see it!

+Jeremiah Munoz They are not promotions but your emails that you are already getting but in "thumbnail view"

Oh boy boner pills will now become spam collages… Artistic masterpieces out of junk!

+Jeremiah Munoz Gmail already makes it easy to stop receiving mail you don't want. I don't understand why people complain about marketing emails. Just unsubscribe/mark as spam/block.

It is not a bad idea but, why Blackberry are not recognizing your mails? They are asking to re-download another version of mails why please?

Remember that Promotion tab is only for those newsletter you are subscribed, there is only one ad in yellow. I think it's a great idea, it seems a Google+ post

I fond this a cool idea. Well implemented, as an option. If you don't like, don't use it. Simple.

If we compared this to the desastrous forced implantation of Modern UI...

+Jeremiah Munoz Adding to what others have said, if you are receiving emails you consider to be spam, report them as spam. Gmail's spam filters adapt to what you tell them is spam.

I have signed up for this. It looks kind of cool, like emails being viewed as Google Plus posts.  And, from the gif, it's easily toggleable, making it simple to go back to the regular list mode. I wish more of google's options were like that, instead of hidden in difficult-to-find dropdown menus accessable only by mousing over certain areas.

That previous update to display all pictures without prior confirmation from the user makes sense now.

Not sure this is for me though. I personally don't like the new auto labels and have them hidden. The sorting is always off.

Very neat idea: I get a lot of email newsletters and such from companies I like, but not every message is interesting. This should make it easier to determine whether I want to find out more or just delete.
ah anto

Hey hello fren

No, thanks.  It's faster for me to scan subject lines.  So many websites are moving to a similar interface and I really don't like it.

Awesome. If the marketers can figure out how to animate all the gifs in their messages (or maybe Google will do it for them with some auto awesome), this should look really great.

I like how Google continues to push email forward. First the tabs, and now graphical interface.

This is great. What I would like to see is the ability to show certain emails like this in the primary inbox. If I can filter certain emails to show with the cards UI my primary inbox while showing text only in a certain way, that would be awesome.

Too bad I don't use the tabs... another Gmail feature I won't be using.

I already use all the TAB functions and find them extremely helpful for seeding all the crap emails into a safe place separate to my primary account. Looking forward to using the test feature - Id really love to ADD my own tabs though...think this is a better option than displaying images

I must say I don't know very much about the things which are really important. I do know a lot about my flesh, & how I'm a weak little man & gave up my wife & 5 sons to get tangled up in this community & all of its glamor & all that I love to feed my fleshly passions that will cause my life to become so empty & unfulfilled, it's to bad when I realize it, I'll be old & truly all alone. Cause I'm untrustworthy & don't have anything to offer any of you but shame. I've been living my life with nothing but false words & a character thats a lot like the Pharisees that wanted Christ our savior crucified. They pretended to be lovers of God & Holyness, but in the eyes of our Lord they were sinful, envious & evil hearted men,so far from God and the sad truth, thy didn't even know how they looked in Our creators eyes. ( a disgrace ). Just like I am to my beautiful family I gave up. JECKLE

This makes it look like Google actually WANTS us too see ads in Gmail. WHO FREAKING CARES?! I DON'T WANT TO SEE FREAKING BILLBOARDS IN MY E-MAILS!

I only use Gmail because I can use it with my Google account, there's no spam, and because it actually works. (unlike Yahoo! and a few others) So don't get on my case about "Oh, well don't use it". I actually use an e-mail program, so I don't care about the web version anymore.

Add an "All to trash" button and you might perk my interest

Google!! Ooh Google!!! Always innovating, brilliant idea.

A simple suggestion from me, can the tabs not be a floating tab, and let the email scroll below. its somestime difficult if i want to sort and have scroll all the way back up to drag and drop, mostly ends up dropping along the way :)

Hey guys :) Recently I deleted my G+ Profile and remade it on same Gmail Acc due to some mess, but now when I add Gmail, Google Drive and few to circles, I am not receiving Emails for their posts, can someone help me?

I love the promotion tab. It's like a secondary junk folder.

This should be added for everything and not just Promotions tab as I use filters instead to separate marketing emails.

Lovely - now there is a way to look at Spam in a pretty way. Glad you guys are taking care of how we users think about spam.

And here I was thinking the time of large add-banners are gone... when that ugly monster raises it's head once again. Someone kill it! Quick! Kill it with fire!

looking at it some more I don't get it. Is this a way to make that least important of all tabs more... traffic-consuming? Because quite honestly: the promotions tab is the absolut last thing I'd spend a lot of time browsing. Most of those mails are more like spam or flyers. I guess I've always been a  "no flyers or special offers"-sticker-on-mailbox kind of guy.

I hate tabs because of promotions...no thank you

Just got accepted into the trial and I already love the promotions tab. Awesome work, and thank you for this awesome feature!

I signed up because I though this would be helpful.

It just enabled for me, and all I can say is, “No, thank you”. It’s neither aesthetically pleasing nor functional; the first thing I did was look up how to make the grid view go away.

make the interface to google docs look like this please
it is truly a waste on that tab :(

I would like to know when Google/Gmail will allow the users to change the tabs name! I think that is more important than promotional stuff... Thanks.

+Sara Santos If that's important to you, I encourage you to use Send feedback (in the menu for gear icon) to send a request for the function directly to the Gmail team.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for switching between the list and grid views?

I think that this is a really great +Gmail feature, but for those of us who use our personal +Google+ . profile more than a "company" page, how are we supposed to get our logo/identification image into the "Sender image" box? In my tests, I have only been able to see the letter "N" in it.

My newsletter is a very big part of my business, and I know for a fact that I will always have more Google+ followers on my personal page than I could ever have on a company page. I obviously use Google+, and if the purpose of linking a Google+ profile is to get companies on-board, then I'm already one step ahead.

It seems like there could be a way to fix this for heavy personal-profile users (like me) who are also their own brand.
