Women's History Month recognition for the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale. Post by Susan Gross.
Florence Nightingale is widely recognized as the founder of modern nursing. What’s far less known is that Florence Nightingale was one of the world’s first feminists. Nightingale was born in 1820 to an upper-class English family that moved in the highest circles of British society. She came of age in Victorian England, when women of her class were expected to marry, bear children, and spend their time socializing with others of comparable social ...

My 7-year-old daughter chose Florence Nightingale as the subject of her "3 minute talk" for school last year. I was proud, but now I'm extra proud of my little budding feminist :)

I interviewed GoDaddy's change agent CEO, Blake Irving.
When you speak with GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving, it’s easy to conjure the teenage percussionist he once was, asserting his high energy drive with his drumsticks,  and quite possibly driving his mother crazy by beating bongos while doing the split in the kitchen like Jean-Claude Van Damme in this classically weird GoDaddy ad. I had a chance to interview the leader of the world’s largest, and most controversial, domain name registrar, not long after h...

Take The Lead and She Negotiates have created this Close the Gap App to help anyone negotiate to earn what you are worth.
Why is this Equal Pay Day, Tuesday, April 8th, so important? Because women still only earn 77¢ for every $1 earned by a man. But together, we can fix that. Make Equal Pay Day extra meaningful this year by taking action to close your own pay and leadership gap.  For starters, Take The Lead is offering the Close The Gap App for just $7.77. The Gap App will help you define your goals, communicate your value, build your support network and negotiate ...

Why do you think women in the boardroom make companies better?

My short answer is: Without the females in the room, the big picture, well-rounded viewpoint, voice of reason, and compassion is not well represented or not represented enough. Imbalance causes selfish and ego-driven decisions to be made.

Co-Founder and President, Take The Lead; Author of No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power
Introduction
Gloria Feldt is co-founder and president of Take The Lead, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to prepare, develop, inspire, and propel women to take their fair and equal share of leadership positions across all sectors by 2025.  A renowned activist and author, whose passion for social justice has propelled her life’s work, her latest book, No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power, reveals why women are stuck at 18% of top leadership roles. Through inspirational stories and practical tools, in keynotes, workshops, writings, and courses, Gloria shows how women can redefine power, lead themselves with intention, and reach parity from the boardroom to the bedroom for good—their own and society’s.

Gloria Feldt’s previous books include the New York Times bestseller Send Yourself Roses, co-authored with actress Kathleen Turner, Behind Every Choice Is a Story, and The War on Choice. People Magazine calls Feldt “the voice of experience.” A teen mother from rural Texas, Feldt served as president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s largest reproductive health and advocacy organization, from 1996-2005. She is a frequent media commentator on women’s leadership and related issues. Feldt teaches “Women, Power, and Leadership” at Arizona State University and serves on the board of the Women’s Media Center.
