"Within the Yekuana indigenous community in Boca de Ninchire located in the basin of Caura river in Venezuela, a new generation of youth is discovering the potential of digital media, as it's easier to have access to these tools. From February 9-20, the project Chariboan Joi held its digital journalism workshop, which was one of the project's core activities. In the workshop 10 Shipibo youth took part, including high school students from the Peruvian Amazon region from the indigenous communities Nueva Betania, Nueva Palestina, and Bethel. The purpose of the workshop was to teach the basics of digital citizen journalism, with an emphasis on audio reporting using mobile phones. http://bit.ly/1OjHoqv

Gao Yu, a veteran Chinese journalist, was sentenced by the Beijing Court on April 17 to seven years in prison for having “illegally provided state secrets to foreigners”. http://bit.ly/1PsJ2D3
She was sentenced to seven years in prison. Observers believe the "state secrets" refer to a Chinese Communist Party directive that lists "seven speak-nots" for university professors, including press freedom.
