I wrote about USB-C teething pains at Fast Company: https://www.fastcompany.com/3066542/innovation-agents/how-volunteer-reviewers-are-saving-the-world-from-crummy-even-dangerous-us

The problem isn't a bad standard; it's that there's no real buffer between standards group, manufacturers, and consumers anymore.
Helpful though they are, plucky small bands of testers can't make up for the lack of independent consumer-focused labs for tech equipment.

My deep dive into when the iPhone 7 Plus picks one or the other of its cameras. Or both! It's surprising, but Apple is making the best choice for the best photo. And you can access either lens manually via inexpensive third-party apps, too (~$5).
Using the 2x setting in iPhone 7 Plus's Camera app doesn't always mean the telephoto lens will take the photo. If you're too close your subject, or there isn't enough light, the app will use the

I've written a book on Slack for those who want to get more out of it (or were put in a position to have to learn); the first two chapters are free. The full book will be out in a few weeks!
If you’re looking for a way for a group — a work team, club, or even family — to stay in touch through Internet messaging, check out Slack and our new book explaining how to use it. We even have a public Slack group you can join to talk about Slack and anything related to Apple.

Happy Birthday still isn't in the public domain. Or is it? We may never know. I wrote up the curious case of a Schrödinger's Cat copyright based on the latest decision in a lawsuit over its status for Fast Company. https://www.fastcompany.com/3051543/the-tangled-history-and-mysterious-legality-of-happy-birthday

Bitcoin has forked due to the seeming intransigence of a few people in the core code maintainer group. The fork will very likely become the dominant new chain.

After a lot of work, Bitcoin XT 0.11A is released! This is a formal fork of Bitcoin Core, and features:

• Bigger blocks!
• Double spend relaying
• getutxo / BIP 65 support
• Better DoS defences
• A refreshed DNS seed list

There's downloads for all major platforms and an apt repository for Debian/Ubuntu 64 bit servers.

Come join us!
What we stand for. The XT Manifesto defines what the project believes is important: commitment to these principles are what differentiates us from Bitcoin Core. We try to follow Satoshi's original vision, as it is that vision which brought the Bitcoin community together.

I'm trying to gather more information as a tech report on things Apple about how people currently attach stuff to the ports on existing models of Mac laptops. If you can fill out the survey and pass on, it would be appreciated!
Drive
What do you attach to your Mac laptop?A brief survey trying to understand how an admittedly self-selected group of people attach peripherals and charge devices via their various MacBook models. This includes any model of MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. Glenn Fleishman, a technology reporter, created this survey to get some insight into how people use the ports on their Mac laptops in 2016. No personally identifying information is collected.

The two books about using Slack effectively I've been writing for a few months are finished and for sale:

Take Control of Slack Basics is for every beginning and intermediate Slack team member who wants to better control notifications, use messages more effectively, and generally become more efficient at getting what they need from Slack.

https://www.takecontrolbooks.com/slack-basics?aff=AFL7874399338&pt=GOOG

Take Control of Slack Admin will help a non-IT person set up and manage a Slack team. We know so many people who want to use Slack or already have a team started don't have access to IT help, and this book targets that purpose.

https://www.takecontrolbooks.com/slack-admin?aff=AFL7874399338&pt=GOOG

We also started a public Slack group that anyone can join to ask questions about Slack or get more information about the books: http://slackbits.herokuapp.com/

I wrote a story for The Economist about a drone planned for the International Space Station: the Astrobee! http://www.economist.com/news/science-and-technology/21666115-crew-space-station-will-soon-be-getting-new-factotum-astrobusybee It'll replace existing, limited drones up there now, and help give astronauts more time for more interesting work while improving safety.

Terrific to work with. They helped me send hundreds of books for a Kickstarter campaign around the world with essentially no fuss. Their back-end systems are top-notch, allowing me to upload a file of information, and spend essentially no time worrying about it would be processed and handled. From helping me arrange delivery from my printer to providing me clear updates and even working with me when my credit union failed to deliver a check properly, FulfillRite was top notch!
