Bee swarm season has definitely begun in Canberra. Tried to prevent my hive from swarming by splitting it a few weekends ago, but they cast a small swarm anyway this morning. Luckily I had another box ready to go to collect them in.

If you see a swarm on a bush or tree or mailbox or whatever, don't panic! They are fairly docile in that state and are unlikely to harass you unless you harass them, just call someone from the swarm collectors list as soon as you can http://www.actbeekeepers.asn.au/swarmcollectors/

I back this project, and now have to decide to pull my support or not within a day or two before the project funds (or not). Without the unique battery I'm struggling to see a reason to back the project anymore when I can go into a store and buy basically what they promise to deliver. At best I'm saving some money on a decent build, and it does promise to be slightly lighter than what is commonly available, but at the expense of not seeing delivery until next year?

Koben's Electric Bike Pulls The Plug. Co-Founder Leaves Company’s Taking Battery Tech With Him
We are tracking this story. Hope to get news as it progresses.  Company so far refuses to answer our questions.  Looks like Co-founder Neal Saiki has pulled the plug on his involvement with Karmic Koben taking his amazing battery technology along with him. ...

For far too long, Australia's political sector has gotten technology policy completely wrong. I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore. Let's take Delimiter into the Canberra Press Gallery and literally write the book on tech policy while we're there.

Perhaps I should go and try my hand at rabbit hunting...
Rabbits are taking over a park and beach area along Lake Burley Griffin, immune from Commonwealth and ACT agencies.

When the government forces us to downgrade our privacy protections to help stop the "baddies", it ends up threatening our personal security later.

"The weak 512-bit keys are a vestige of the 1990s, when the Clinton administration required weak keys to be used in any software or hardware that was exported out of the US."

I think it's pretty stunning how little about copyright law that this filmmaker understands
""It is just as if I drew a pic of Power Rangers on a napkin and I gave it to my friend. Is it illegal to give pic I drew of a character on a napkin to someone for free? No.""
Well, yes, that is in fact illegal. Copyright law is stupid.

A fan-made film based on the successful Power Rangers films and television series has draw the ire of Saban Brands, the Hollywood company that owns the franchise.

I tend to make things from 'scratch' in ways that most people tend to think is an excessive amount of effort, but one of things I tend to think about is where the line between a base ingredient and having things pre-processed begins and ends.
Like if I make bread, is it 'cheating' to not mill your own wheat? Is it really from scratch if you didn't grow the wheat? I didn't evaporate the salt, I didn't harvest the water from my own rainwater tanks etc.
This seems like a really good exploration of what it from scratch really means, and digging down through the food chain to see what is involved in something as simple as a sandwich.

Andy George spent six months and $1,500 assembling one sandwich from scratch, including making his own cheese and bread and killing a chicken – and credits the process with educating him about the global food supply chain

Interesting move by Google - if they can get enough access to WiFi APs, then coupled with the Android Wear 5.1 update that adds WiFi support, Android Wear watches could get notifications out and about without having to carry your phone - they just need to increase what you can do on-watch without having to switch back to the phone.

Yet another case of copyright harming creators.
If copyright length was a sane amount of 15 to 20 years then this wouldn't be a problem - http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/03/atari-to-indie-dev-stop-ripping-off-your-own-work-on-tempest-2000/
Developer Jeff Minter publicly chafes at Atari's attempts to limit TxK.
