Our opinions are rarely SO right in a scenario that others are 100% wrong.
I'm sure this entire year we'll see a lot of "I'll Never's" coming true. It pains me and I have a hard time admitting them. But I'm in the middle of another one and it's causing ;me to learn a lot so I'll share. I used to lead a small group at my church in Atlanta. One of the things I valued most about the group was that we were a diverse group of people, married, single, divorced, newlywed, parents, near empty nesters, dating, not dating. We ca...

If I'm certain of little else about who I am, I can be certain about how I love.
I've not been married long. Just long enough for the struggles of identity to steal their way through me ever so slightly every once and so often. When I have quiet moments and my mind is left to wander, I find myself dwelling on pieces of my identity that I struggle to reconcile. Almost all of my circumstances have changed. I have a new name, I'm not single, I live in the burbs, I have a dog [This might be most shocking of all], we rarely ;go o...

We juiced for a week and this is what we learned.
Jason sat me down one evening after work, and asked me to watch a documentary with him. It's called Fat, Sick, And Nearly Dead. ;It's about a man with a rare disease, who was overweight and wanted to change his life before he lost it. He chose to do it through juicing. We finished the documentary and high on the man's life change, Jason asked me if I wanted to juice with him for a week. I accepted the challenge. I had learned a lot about the ben...

I'm eating my "I'll Never's" as I realize we've done a lot of what I promised I'd never do.
The other morning Jason and I were waking up early for work. It was 5:45 and COLD outside. We didn't want to roll ourselves out of bed. We'd just finished celebrating New Years and Jason had to get himself off to work. We were working up the courage to expel ourselves from our ;warm bed when Jason whispered to me, "you're my best friend." I got misty eyed saying it back. Without knowing even what had happened, over the last few months of marriag...

Merry Christmas today, to you and to our Savior.
It's Him I celebrate as I make my way to a cup of coffee and warmth of family.
It's He who gives me life and breath, hope and joy, and all good gifts that I receive today.
My Savior, my Friend, God's Son, and my Deliverer.
I remember You and the sacrifice You offered on my behalf.
I receive from You the good, the hard, the glorious, and the incomprehensible that You offer.
I may not understand all the things You have orchestrated,
But as my sleepy eyes open, as my heart surrenders, and as my soul acknowledges my need;
Savior, I receive you once again today.
All through advent we've been looking at various people in Jesus' birth story. We've examined our own joy and love. We've considered what the birth of Jesus means; It means our salvation. He is our Savior. ; This is my first Christmas being married and living in Minnesota. All the events that have brought me here to exactly this time and place, living this story, have been orchestrated by the Savior who was born to redeem mankind. I acknowledge ...

Through Joseph's actions we see a deep faith in his God, and a deep love for his child.
Joseph was not Jesus' biological father, but took on all the responsibilities of raising this child as his very own. He did as God had asked of him. Scripture says that Joseph was a righteous man. He did what was right and wanted to do what was right when he found out the girl he was engaged to was pregnant. He hadn't been with her, so he didn't want to mix himself up in disgracing them both. ; God knew exactly Joseph's line of thinking and sent...

Sometimes God gives us things we didn't even know we could possibly be blessed with.
I'm the youngest of 4 kids, so by the time I came along my grandparents were already aging. My Grandparents have all passed away several years ago. Some of my best life memories and lessons I learned through them, though. I think often of how they spoke life and encouragement into me as I sought to know God better and make life choices that I could live with. They were always such an encouragement, showing me what it looks like to love our Savior...

I don't want to hide and I don't want to ask you to either.
The Cure: What If God Isn't Who You Think He Is And Neither Are You ; by John Lynch ;Bruce McNicol ;and ;Bill Thrall My friend Andre started reading this book ;after she had gotten a ;few chapters in, she wondered if I'd be willing to read it with her. ;The book takes a simple approach to some pretty hefty issues and I was thankful to have her to talk it through with. ;We ;savored every page, wrestling through issues of vulnerability, identity, ...

Book review and lessons learned.
MWF Seeking BFF: My Yearlong Search for a New Best Friend by Rachel Bertsche It seems appropriate that after my last post ;this book review and my next post about learning would be on this book. To be honest, I started this book in May of last year. Shameful. It took me so long to get through for 3 reasons. 1. In reading the book it felt most of the time, like she was writing a high school research paper but didn't know how to smoothly actually...

Here are 7 best books I read in 2014.
I pride myself in the amount that I read. I love reading, I love being the person people ask book recommendations from, I love reading books others recommend, and this year I've felt like a bit of a failure. My year was a whirlwind and reading was the primary thing I had to let go of a bit, so I only read about 1/3rd as much as I usually do. ; All this said, there were a few favorites I had from my year. Not as many as usual, but these are ones ...

What a wonder of a child. What a gift to a mother. What a promise for redemption. What a beginning to such a story.
Today officially, the advent calendar is complete. The anticipation we've been building is almost here. Tomorrow we'll wake up to a sparkling Christmas tree, open gifts that remind us of the Magi meeting with Jesus, and we'll celebrate the fulfillment of prophesies with hearts prepared and joy and love permeating our homes. My prayer is that through this time of preparation, God has been at work in our spirits to accomplish the work He set out to...

The entire journey would have been one of expectation, as they made their way to the place the star showed them.
The 3 Magi from the East get a lot of attention at Christmas. My friend had a BRILLIANT idea and did her own spin on Elf on the Shelf. Instead of the elf she had 3 "wise guys" who were on a journey to find Jesus all through advent. I love this idea. The journey of the Magi becomes a little controversial at times. They probably weren't there at the stable at the birth of Jesus. In all likelihood Jesus could have been ;closer to the age of 2, base...
