How a IIIT prof with undergrad beat Google and Fb at building a 360 camera. He used 1 camera while other needed 36
Our cameras are only capable of a panoramic view at best. Wrong. Rajat Aggarwal & Amrisha Vohra, students of Dr Anoop M. Namboodiri, Centre for Visual Information Technology (CVIT) at IIIT Hyderabad have come up with a solution to capture a 360 DEGREE STEREO VIEW with a single mirror attached to your MOBILE or any other camera!

Their approach involves designing a first of its kind mirror which has the ability to convert any digital camera into a stereo panoramic capture device. The device is robust, portable and much more affordable than any of the other existing technologies including the Google Jump etc. Another distinguishable feature of this device is that it processes data in real time which makes it a great tool for defence, tourism, education and related fields. Their recent publication in CVPR 2016 was acknowledged throughout the research fraternity.

Just now attended a brilliant lecture by Dr. Raghuram Rajan (Reserve Bank of India Governor) at tifr. You can view the recordings here.

(Skip the first 30 minutes to reach the point where Raghuram starts his lecture)

Lecture was on what is the optimal inflation rate for developing economy of India. Whom should it be optimised for, Industrialists or common folk for a sustained development, etc..

PS: This was his first lecture after announcing his decision to return to academia by the end of his term this year.
