Did you know, once, Victorian houses were all gray and colorless. Then, in the year of 1963, an ingenious artist by the name of Butch Kardum decided to color his dismal Victorian home with bright blues and greens.
Other artists began to join him, dashing the walls of their homes with paint. They had begun the colorist movement. These kinds of houses were referred to as “Painted Ladies” or “Gingerbreads”. The Gingerbread Mansion took its name from the orange, cream, and navy style it was painted in.

Had high tea and took a tour while in town once and the staff was friendly and seemed to pass on an excitement about the inn and it's history, I booked a room next time I came. Every room in appointed brilliantly and perfectly. The gardens are beautiful and the atmosphere is very victorian. They closed for a while after the last owner went belly up but I am so glad to see it back up and running. Can't wait to return! Had a wonderful and enchanting stay.

We stayed for three nights in the Hideaway room, the upstairs alcove is perfect to get a nervous kid to sleep in their own bed. Everyone on staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfasts and teas were full of the freshest ingredients and there was a ton of variety. Accommodations were made for all sorts of appetites at breakfast, even though the regular breakfast was exceedingly delicious and made by a skilled chef.

B&Bs don't get any better than this. Large, very comfortable room, lots of public space inside the house (mansion), afternoon tea, wine and lovely goodies, and an incredible breakfast in the spacious dining room with other guests. We would come back in a heartbeat, and probably will.

Such heart goes into the service and maintenance here. It's the opposite of what you see in most establishments today. Paint is not chipped, furniture covers are not worn. Everything is maintained meticulously to its Victorian time period. The gardens are beautiful, the staff is amazing and the food is great. Stay in the Veneto room if you can. After touring all the suites, it is superior even to the pricier rooms (unless you require 2 side by side tubs- then go for the Empire.)

A wonderful, historic stay here is one of several reasons to visit Ferndale. My reason was stalking the locations of where Salem's Lot was filmed in 1979. I was 4 when it aired and it scared the hell out of me. I only learned that it was filmed in Ferndale a few years ago and a quick drive to visit Ferndale during a drive from Portland back to home in SF shocked me. It looked as if nothing had changed since 1979 and it really has not. It's damn right reality and I considered myself to be in Jerusalem's Lot, playing my part in my favorite Stephen King book. It's an experience I never dreamed I would ever have after a lifetime of Barlow and the whole town of vampires haunting me and finding faith and a hero in David Soul whom is Ben Mears, vampire slayer to protect me as a child and now I'm walking in the shadows of each key location in the film. Astonished it is the same as it was in my 4 year old world, 35 years later. That's so unique and beautiful to me I can not elaborate to anyone how this stay was fictional and how me and my wife will Return To Salem's Lot!

My boyfriend and I on a whim, decided to take a little weekend getaway here, and my were we impressed. The entire place was gorgeous and the room was even better than we imagined. The staff was absolutely wonderful and we will be going there again to stay for my birthday. Definitely worth the money and it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had away from home.
