Pete, our 101 year old resident, walks daily and was so excited to get his first pedometer this week!
He read all the instructions and has it clipped to his belt as he cruises the hallways at Gilman Park.
Pete tells us that keeping active has kept him healthy!  This study collaborates Pete's wisdom:  https://goo.gl/d45DMW. Next month, we are starting a walking club and handing out pedometers to all residents who participate.  All month long we will be keeping track of our steps and having a big party with prizes for those who walked the farthest!

One of our favorite places to go each year is to Judy Knuckle's farm in Canby to meet the baby lambs!
Judy makes this visit fun and educational.  She brings the day old baby lambs on to the bus for the residents to hold and pet.  We enjoy hearing their bleating cries and the mama lambs talking back to them from the barn.

Spring is on its way, and with it, our beautiful Oregon cherry blossoms are blooming! We decided to get a jump on spring and create our own cherry blossoms. A little pink paint and the bottom of a pop bottle was used to create the blossoms. It feels like spring has arrived early at Gilman Park!

Cyndy came and showed all of us how to make Valentine Mason Jar Candy Lights. We painted, we peeled, we filled ourselves and the jars with Valentine's message candies and added a battery light. Our little lanterns are lights of love!

Rose and Fred met while she was in nursing school.  She was assigned to take care of Fred’s brother who was in the hospital with a broken leg.  When Fred came to visit his brother, it was love at first sight for the two of them. They met on February the 10th, 1958. Fred immediately asked her out. They attended a dance on the 13th. Out again on the 14th. This time to a movie that they could only watch half of the 2nd feature because Rose had to be back at her dorm by 10 pm. On the 16th, Fred asked her to marry him. She said yes and them she received her ring on February 26th. They were married 7 months later August 30th, 1958. They have a love that has stood the true test of time. This August they will be married 59 wonderful years.

Barbara and Perry met while they were both volunteering at The Veterans Hospital in Portland. Perry looked in to Barbara's eyes, saw her soul and knew it was love at first sight. They were married 8 months later and have been together for 14 wonderful years.  Their advice is: everything gets better with age and be kind to each other. #WisdomWednesday
