Brandon and I traveled to a different state in order to get married at the start of 2014. my name was changed in the process, but only federally. when we returned, i was able to get a new S.Security Card, but as same-sex marriage was still illegal in Texas, i wasn't able to update my driver's license. so i had two names for a while. and let me tell you, it definitely makes awkward situations.
"which name do i use? state-name? or federal-name?"
"whatever's on your driver's license and your insurance information."
"they don't match."
"um... let's go with insurance."
we had a magnificent time in Minneapolis thanks to Greg and Brent ( http://snugglyoafs.blogspot.com/2014/01/together-part-2-minneapolis.html ), but when we got back to Texas, that was it. we didn't have a wedding party or anything, 'cause we'd been so far away from all our other friends and family.
i'm so happy that my driver's license will reflect my real name.
i'm so happy that no one will have to leave their home in order to marry the person they love.
and above all, i'm so happy for all those kids, those students, those people who may have felt like they didn't belong, who have felt fear or uncertainty because they're different or because their family is different. the world isn't perfect and some will still not understand it. not everyone will love it. but today, history was made, and when anyone feels sad or alone, i want them to see this. see how happy so many of us are today. see how this mass feeling of elation filled the spaces between us and everyone across the spectrum of love smiled and cried and knew that we were moving in the right direction.
i love you all <3 #LoveWins
thanks so much!
save for one, i think i've finished all of the most complicated ones, design-wise.
i'm nervous about how cool i can make my current work in progress...
SO, a good friend of mine is getting married next year and he's asked me to crochet all the centerpieces. each piece is gonna be comic-themed! i've finished a few and...sort of, maybe...didn't think of posting any of it here. in a comic book community. herpderp.
there's a long list and it includes some characters i've never heard of, so when i get around to making those, you guys will have to fill me in.
here's what i've finished so far <3 #Project2016
