After you had an introduction to Intel Edison following the Getting Started guide, and our previous tutorial, the Intel Edison mini-breakout Getting Started Guide, it's now time to work on something a bit more complex. You'll be also able to play a bit with Node.js, a programming platform that ...

After an article about my #journey appeared on #TOI last week, I've been getting a quite a few emails from all sorts either interested in knowing more about my journey or wanting to #cycle with me. I have also been approached by a few people from the media.
I personally would've selected a headline shying away from having quit my job to go riding. But life has a funny way of working out and I have now been featured, on www.officechai.com, as one of 11 people that have quit their job to walk a road less traveled.
I wish, the other 10, the best of luck in their chosen venture. Thank you officechai.

Recovering your Intel Edison
[if you have a bad firmware or if you've lost the password ]
I followed the same thread as in one of the communities except that I
had limited luck with Windows - I think the MMC area was simply not
getting written or formatted at all. So here's what I did to recover my
Intel Edison!

Keep 'screen' connected so that you can have a look at the log of
what's going on with Edison

> sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200

1) Download the latest Full Yocto Image for Edison from the Intel
   software downloads website
   https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-23242

2) Unzip the image into a directory

   > unzip edison-image-rel1-maint-rel1-ww42-14.zip -d ~/edison-image/.

3) Connect your Edison to Linux machine - Windows didn't work well for
me for the same procedure of flashing.

4) Make sure you see the Edison partition accessible in Linux.

5) Copy over the contents of the image [now in the edison-image
directory] to the edison partition that you see in the machine. I
executed the below command, since my partition was mounted at
   /media/usb2

   > cp -rf ~/edison-image/* /media/usb2/.

6) Unmount the partition so that all the files get written to the
MMC. This might take some time.

7) Reboot your edison and keep pressing a button until it take you to
uboot promp with something like > boot

8) Execute the following command

   > run do_ota

9) This command should read the ota_update.scr file and then also
flash all the partitions including root. This will take some time
and then the board automatically reboots twice. Keep track of the
logs you see on the screen

Pretty detailed write up on PCB design/prototyping and manufacturing

Hello folks! I finally published the last part of my series of articles about how to create an Arduino shield from scratch. This part is dedicated to fabricating the shield after the prototyping & design phases. Enjoy!
This article is the last one in a series where we saw how to build an Arduino shield from scratch. In the previous part, we saw how to do the PCB design for our shield project. In this last part of...

Fine finesse with #soldering - #Edison Mini breakout board has all the pins soldered and I can also stack up #Sparkfun boards. Had to meddle with some jumpers blocking the stack up. Exciting thing coming up. #IntelMaker

Tagline
"The planet is fine, the people are fucked". You now know where I come from.
Introduction

I am ghanashyam, a free thinker, technology enthusiast, engineer and DIY enthusiast.

Profession & Interests:

I am an electronics designer by profession. Over the years, I have been working on FPGA designs, embedded systems and now I work on graphics processors. I have new found love in Maker stuff around Arduino, RaspberryPi and Intel Galileo and Edison and an an old time love in free software.

I am proud that am an Internet addict. I am a hard core fan of Steve Jobs, his style of working and thought process. I appreciate Apple products and am a Nexus user.

My Web2.0 Presence

Where I live:

I was born and brought up in Manipal, a coastal town of Karnataka state, INDIA. With a beautiful lake, Manipal is a serene place to live and is also called the University town, with a lot of educational institutions. I currently live in Bengaluru for work. My long term dream is to settle back in Manipal doing my own stuff.

Outside of work:

I have spent quite some years of my professional life in Manipal, when I am not working, I used to spend some time at the beach flying kites once in a while, drive alongside the beach or walk to the riverside, take a boat ride. I love traveling alone[now that I am married, its a tad bit difficult to be alone] and I like talking to different people. It is always nice traveling in trains, and buses when you get to meet new people.

In Bangalore, I occasionally go watch a live play in a theater, ride on my bike exploring the food joints[someare on my Instagram stream

Apart from these, I like pencil sketching and water color paintings.. I like all kinds of music but cant get to stick to one genre for long time. My playlists are random.. I like playing football and I can say am above average at playing caroms.

Books I have been reading:

Garfield - At a book exhibit, I bought a bunch of them at a re-seller for Rs 50 then on I have like them like none other, I have been on a hunt for them since then.

Surely You're Joking Mr Feynman - A wonderful account of life moments by physicist Feynman.

Autobiography of Steve Jobs

Yaana
(in Kannada) - By S. L Bhairappa  - Story of a couple on a space ship that is never going to return back to earth - They are on their own and they have to move the programme forward.

My to-do list:

  • Buy a bicycle
  • Buy a bike -- Bought!!
  • Buy a Android Dev Phone OR a bring up a personal Lin Board - Bought RaspberryPi and a Galaxy Nexus! Now awaiting Intel Galileo to make something awesome - Got a Galileo as well! (small project in the making at home)
  • A "fun" trek to the Himalayas -
  • Learn a few more programming languages -- Started with Perl and SysVerilog. Specman
  • Author a Technical Paper

That's a lot of me!!

Amazing food. Don't miss if you are a fish eating guy from Karavali. The fish thali is one decent order you could place that serves you fish and prawn and rice that's perfect for a non veg meal. The ambience is amazing with all Goan style graffiti, kinda teleports you to Goa. The severs wear traditional Goan attire and the music playing in the background is relaxing. If you like beer grab a mug for lunch with the thali. Your day will be done. Don't miss - worth a visit if you're in Bengaluru

Variety of North Indian dishes on the menu. The aaamras and puri is an amazing combination. Main course is primarily Rajasthani cuisine and has varied tastes from sweet to spicy.

Good restaurant. lively and has that trademark Konkani style taste in its food. Garlic chutney and ladies finger curry were classic Konkani mangalore style in the south Indian meals which is quite a feast at 70 rupees. There is variety to the menu and the ambience is charged up. Cleanliness is maintained and a lot of mangalore Tulu/Kannada people around in the restaurant. Takes you to your childhood memories of that restaurant you used to eat during schools if you are a mangalorean

Food is decent but the service has been extremely poor. No body asks you how long you have been waiting. There are only 2 people who take orders and there are around 20 tables. Takes a lot of time. Hopefully service gets better
