There’s a outdoor music venue to rival Tanglewood, an open-to-the-public estate of our country’s first Chief Justice, an innovative world class contemporary museum, and two charming villages within a few minutes drive of each other--Bedford and Katonah, NY. http://ow.ly/rH2P301224P

Milford CT is one of the very few harbors in Connecticut situated in a downtown – one with good restaurants and a lively night scene. It’s a wonderful portal into Long Island Sound town. Explore neighborhoods, beaches, bird sanctuaries and then come back to the docks for some of the best ice cream around.

New London CT is home to the country’s oldest operating Custom House where the Amistad was taken and sold in 1839, our US Coast Guard Academy, and headquarters of the company that makes the Navy’s nuclear submarines. New London also boasts a world-class art museum, Connecticut College, and large ferries that roar multiple times a day to Block Island and Greenport, NY.

Even if you never set foot on the campuses of Amherst College, Hampshire College or UMass, get away to Amherst MA for the authors, the books, and the lively conversations they spark. And of course for the shear beauty of the river valley.

When Dr. Theodor Seuss Geisel wrote, “Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won,” he just may have been spinning lyrics about his own hometown, Springfield MA. You can score points at the National Basketball Hall of Fame, see the “Organ of Muskets” at America’s first National Armory built just after the Revolutionary War, and discover other Springfield innovations at the Springfield Museums on this Getaway.

For this offbeat escape, the Getaway Mavens see The City of Brotherly Love through a darker, creepier, more peculiar lens, with a hint of haunting and some jazzed up Gilded Age panache on the side. #VisitPhilly

Put away your cell phones. Be prepared to tuck in early for the night. The Pennsylvania Dutch are custodians of a simpler time, and this Getaway allows you to interact with them like never before.
Visit Lancaster County PA where buggy whips still fly off the shelves and jam is made the old fashioned way.

Sure, you go to the Adirondacks to hike or ski or to skate on the Olympic Oval. But on the trips that your Grandfather or Great Grandfather took up to the mountains, there were other monumental attractions to behold, as well as more life and death reasons one would have make the trek. These old-school sites are making a comeback – if only for their raw beauty and dazzling vistas; on rivers flanked by limestone walls, by tiered waterfalls, inside an elevator that rises through 27 stories of rock. Plus, the region is charging headlong into foodie utopia; farm to fork joints are giving a major boost to the Adirondack culinary scene.
