Check in is super easy, if your room isn't ready they have a room to keep your bags while you go about the city for a little while. The 8 bed dorms are actually pretty decent with outlets at every bed and a locker for your personal use. The bathrooms have little high power blow dryers, and people leave behind items for communal use, like shower gel or shaving cream. The private rooms are nice too, with closets and a writing desk and chair. The hostel has free events every day, as well as free breakfast. WiFi is good too, but you lose all cell reception on the basement floor. All in all, a very affordable and good place to stay.

When you think Hostel, you wouldn't think of this place. This place feels more like a college dorm than a hostel. They have some private rooms available at no more than $70 a night, and if you wanna save some dough you can take in a roommate. They only charge an extra $10 a night for your guests if you have any. It's very conveniently located and a great atmosphere. WiFi connectivity, desktops. The only downside is the placement of the plugs in the walls. They are not in the most convenient locations (most are under the beds). In some cases, you may have disconnect your air unit to charge your phone. Really makes you consider your priorities...

Stayed at this hostel with a group of friends. We had a girls weekend in Chi-town. Loved this spot. Great Service, and great place to stay. We would definitely return.

Great service here, no complaints. Met some cool people from all over. They serve free breakfast in the morning. They even hold your bags for you! Alao this place always smells like waffles. So that's a plus.

Chicago Getaway Hostel is amazing! I stayed there for a little over a week when I moved to Chicago without a permanent place to stay. you get some pretty amazing amenities for the cost. Lots of very interesting people, more than half of them foreign visitors; I caught Chinese, German, and French while I was there. Free breakfast is great! Very, very secure: I stayed here while moving to Chicago, so I basically had everything I owned with me in two giant suitcases. I left them in my room the duration of the trip and nothing got taken. Staff is incredibly friendly, and genuinely want to help you out. I was able to extend my stay four days while I was there without any problems. It's in a great area, about a 10 minute walk to a major El stop (Brown, Purple, and Red lines, about 25 minutes to reach city center), and a good amount of restaurants, bars, and groceries around. Rooms: With your room, you get a fairly comfortable bed, sheets, a fairly thin fleece blanket, a pretty small, threadbare towel, and a pillow. Everything is very clean, and you can have them "housekeep" your area once a day if you would like. I stayed in a room with a bath within the room for the first half of my stay, and a room with a shared hallway bath for the second half of my stay. The rooms with baths inside are in the basement, but the baths are very nice, and there are modern air conditioner units inside. The rooms with the baths in the hallways are on the upper floors, but the baths are pretty standard community baths. Pros and cons to each. Biggest con of basement rooms are that the internet is really spotty to the point of unusability and absolutely no cell reception; upper rooms don't have this issue. Biggest con of the upper rooms is the lack of nice air conditioning/ventilation. Given the choice I would always choose the basement rooms with the integrated baths; to use the internet just go to the very nice common areas. They don't provide any toiletries but people usually leave soap and shampoo for other people to use. Common areas: Very clean with plenty of seating and big tables. There's a nice lounge area with two big TVs and couches with little mini tables, and a cafeteria style area with long tables and chairs. Pretty clean, always places to sit; however, there was a distinct lack of power outlets, and they kept the AC fairly chilly (I visited at the tail end of summer). Internet reception is very strong here, and the internet itself is very fast; I could stream YouTube videos without a problem. Cell reception is pretty spotty; I noticed most people had to go outside to the courtyard in order to make phone calls. Kitchen: They provide tons of plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, and flatware for you to use. Kitchen is big, but you have to bring all of your own ingredients. There are big fridge and freezer units should you have any perishable things; they were basically full the entire duration of my stay, though, so don't expect to store very much in them. Breakfast: It's amazing! Every day they had bagels, bread (white and wheat), toast supplies (butter, jelly, strawberry jam, cream cheese, and peanut butter), fresh bananas and oranges, and coffee (pretty bad, but it's strong and gets the job done). For the hot item, they rotated daily between make-your-own waffles and hot scrambled eggs. the scrambled egg days were by far my favorite. Everything was always well stocked, and it was never crazy packed while I was there. Breakfast alone is worth half the cost of staying there. Security: This was the big question before I came here. Like I said before, I stayed here while I was in the process of moving, so I had plenty of valuables with me. While they have a suitcase hold system if you arrive before your room is ready, they don't allow you to store your stuff there for the duration of your stay, so you have to put it in your room. I did not have any issues with security the duration of my week stay, and felt pretty comfortable leaving my stuff there while I was out. Overall, I highly recommend this hostel.

I visited Chicago for a Pearl Jam concert & stayed here for 3 nights. I loved the experience. This was my first stay in a Hostel, & I was nervous at first, but that quickly changed when I sat in the common area & chatted with people from all over the world. Everyone was so friendly, & I met several PJ fans. The price was very affordable & they had everything I needed + some. If you don't mind sharing a room, this is a great place to stay. The hotel staff was very friendly & helpful, & let you store your bags if you arrive before check-in. I shared a room with 6 other females (8 bed room). Bunk beds come with sheets, 1 pillow, 1 thick blanket, 1 locker, & 1 towel. You will need to bring a lock for the locker, or you can purchase one for $5.40 at the front desk. There is an ac window unit & a portable heater in each room. Women's bathroom had 3 stalls & 3 showers with a hair dryer & several shared shower products that are removed on Mondays. There are about half a dozen computers, a printer (free), lots of space to sit & lounge, pool & Foosball table, 2 televisions with plenty of seats, & a very nice patio area with bicycle rentals. There is also a big kitchen you can use any time, huge eating area, 3 refrigerators, 1 freezer, bins & labels to store your food, plenty of shelves to store dry food, ice machine, vending machines, & Kuerig with coffee & hot chocolate. There is an onsite laundry room with laundry soap & fabric softener available for purchase as well. I hope this helps!! Safe travels!!

Stayed in a private room because the common dorms were full. The place is quite clean and they serve decent breakfast. Would not go there with family because its a hostel and not a hotel. Mostly European tourists make this place quite interesting
