I'm not much of a hostel person, but I have to say that this is a great hostel, and a viable alternative to staying in a hotel. Next time I go to Chicago, I'd stay here again. Basics: Location: it's a great location. The hostel itself is on a quiet street, with easy access to downtown, or the local neighbourhood. Lincoln Park is a lively and safe neighbourhood, with its own charms, but you still have easy access to all the standard tourist draws closer to the loop (downtown). It's easy enough to find by public transit from the airport, yet staying in this neighbourhood you don't feel like you're overwhelmed with the cliche tourist trappings of the loop (which are cool to see, but like all downtowns they sort of melt into each other). You also won't feel like you're super isolated either. Cleanliness/modernity: it's clean and modern. The pictures on the website are accurate, and I've stayed in hostels and hotels where they take a few decent pictures, then the rest of the place is somewhat of a shithole. This is especially annoying when it's a hotel and you're paying significantly more. That's not the case here. The only complaint that I had was that the soap dispenser on the second floor men's washroom wasn't kept full at all times, or it didn't work. I'm picky and this was literally it. Staff: friendly, cool, competent, and helpful. Intangibles: Clientele: a good mix of people from all over the world, so if you want to be social, you'll probably find some people whom you'll gel with, and if you want to stick to yourself you can do that too. The hostel organized activities are largely attended by the 20-to-30 something crowd, but you'll still have fun if you're a bit older and there were a wide range of ages and nationalities staying at the place. Activities: there are daily activities that the hostel organizes, so if you don't feel like heading out by yourself, or with your crew alone, you can always join in. The epic pub crawl, for example, is highly recommended, but of course you should plan your hangover accordingly if you do go on it! So yes, definitely a 5 out of 5.

Facility of this Hostel is good. Breakfast is good. They serve eggs, bread and cereal. But I saw a man in women restroom. I told the staff that, though, they didnt do anything.

Don't let the word hostel scare you - this is the best kept secret in the city! Trendy interior and very clean! There are great amenities indoor and they have an awesome patio. We stayed in a single room with two bunks and a half bath. It was perfect for two coeds, but the better deal is a shared room if you're up for it.

just stayed here a week and a half ago, loved it! we had a private room full bed $114 (booked in January to get pre pay discount.) I was very excited to stay here as it was my first hostel experience and I loved it. everything was clean and reception staff was always friendly no matter what hour. parking is limited so plan to pay ($15-$28)for that or commute.but other than that no complaints for the price 😃

Very pleasant stay, clean rooms, yummy breakfast bar. Contemporary style with historical feel you've got to experience for yourself. Hidden in a quiet residential neighborhood, within easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, and pubs. Very trendy, very affordable.

Here's the thing about this Getaway Hostel. I think its secretly owned by nun's or the catholic church or something. Personally, I'm a bible burner lately, especially when these bible totters meddle, and they like meddle, peeping in keyholes and everything. Anyway, whenever I start talking with a guy, all of sudden these wretched girls crawl out of the wood work. The staff starts making distractions. So, they're thinking I'm going to their Halloween/New Years party, so they can watch me chat and try to hook up with a few interesting guys, just so, all of a sudden, a little gaggle of girls show up to steal the show, and distract just enough to NOT make it happen. And for what, so they can pop out a bible, and invite them to tea with the old ladies and men of Lincoln Park. If you're travelling all the way from China, or Europe, and that's what you want, a nosy staff, and the neighborhood church and Loyola, holy rollers looking over you back, this is the place for you!

Chicago Getaway Hostel is located in Lincoln park, a quiet neighborhood and only 10 minutes walking distance to nearby Red/Brown line subway, easy commute to O'Hare Airport. 10 minutes walking distance to many cute and affordable restaurants on Clark St. Nice location and room price is good. Free printing. However, the hostel shower is not clean. Room is cold and owner did not supply the heating until late in the evening (with only 3 hour supply of heating: 10pm-11pm, 1-2am and 3-4am). Breakfast has minimal options. Towels are not replaced automatically (ask front desk everyday). Internet is extremely slow. I will not recommend stay here.
