Collections have launched, now it's time for the API teams to play catch-up :)

My collections API wishlist:

- Show the collection in the activity "access" information (similar to how communities are shown)

- Allow listing posts per collection (and per community for that matter... https://code.google.com/p/google-plus-platform/issues/detail?id=639).
The activities.list method already has a nice parameter called "collection" that only accepts "public" at the moment. Why not allow collection IDs in there?

- collections.list(userId)

- allow moving of posts to collections via the API:
This would allow creating something like automatic hashtag collections, and some more fun stuff probably.

Additionally it seems that the Takeout data is currently messed up for collection posts.
Even posts in public collections show this:
  "access" : {
    "accessSummary" : "Shared privately",
    "description" : "Shared privately",
    "items" : [ {
      "type" : "limited"
    } ],
    "kind" : "plus#acl"
  }

In comparison the Google+ API shows this for the same post:
  "access": {
    "kind": "plus#acl",
    "description": "Public",
    "items": [ {
      "type": "public"
     } ]
   }

I've send feedback to the takeout team about the issue already. Going to prepare some feature requests for the Google+ platform issue tracker tomorrow. (Btw, when is the issue tracker going to be moved to Github?)

Something is happening in the Google+ world :)

I can see a lot of potential for this new feature.

I can finally put together some posts (like my photo recipes) that have been long lost in the stream, so they are all neatly together in one place for quick access.

And I hope people will start categorizing their posts, since (no offense) I might not be interested in all of your content, even though most of your posts are awesome :)

Unfollowing certain collections or only following certain collections will allow me to have more control over what appears in my stream, so that e.g. my stream isn't overrun by super bowl posts when the time is upon as again.

And since I write about a big variety of things I will totally understand if you decide to unfollow one of my collections as well. Coding, gardening, cooking, gaming... pick your poison :)

Introducing Google+ Collections, a new way to group your posts by topic

Our happiest Google+ users are those who connect with others around shared interests and passions. So we set out to give people a place to express the things they love. Today, we’re announcing Google+ Collections, a new way to group your posts by topic.

Every collection is a focused set of posts on a particular topic, providing an easy way for you to organize all the things you’re into. Each collection can be shared publicly, privately, or with a custom set of people. Once you create your first collection, your profile will display a new tab where other people can find and follow your collections.

Posts in collections you follow will appear in your Home stream, with a link to easily jump right into the collection so you can get to similar content from that author. Collections give you a great way to find more of the stuff you love from the people you follow.

Collections is available on Android and the web, and iOS is coming later. For Android users, make sure to update your Google+ app to get access to Collections.

For inspiration on interesting topics, check out our Featured Collections page here: g.co/collections

Create your collections today and share what you love.

If you have questions then also be sure to check out our Help Center content http://goo.gl/zyIVMH; if you still can’t find an answer then please post your question in the Collections subcategory.

Best,
Moritz & Claire

+Gerwin Sturm I agree about the API limitations.

At the same time I find myself going back to the history of the original DS:
- start: https://pragprog.com/magazines/2010-01/the-daily-shoot
- end: http://web.archive.org/web/20130615080041/http://duncandavidson.com/blog/2011/10/dailyshoot_retired/

I think the original died because it got too complex and too tightly coupled. I wonder if we could get most of the value for a fraction of the work:
- social media accounts to publish the daily challenges with a spreadsheet being used to track past and future challenges
- shared hashtags
- shared conventions on Google+ (create a collection; call it Daily Shoot; post your photos to that collection and then reshare them to the Daily Shoot Community)

Our herb garden. Nice to have fresh herbs available whenever needed. Already used them for marinating mushrooms for grilling which turned out delicious :)

Looks so tidy that I first thought it's a 3d rendering (o follow some 3d artists who post such stuff). Yours look a bit more realistic though ;)

Here's one collection that won't get any new posts, but I think it's nice that I can finally have all those posts together, without having to keep my list of posts around, that I used to send out per mail to people whom I wanted to show the photos. Now I have a simple link and all the posts and photos are there :)

Now if only I could adjust it to start with the oldest post to have them in the right chronological order...

Today we tried smoking rainbow trouts.

We had them in brine (water, salt, some fresh herbs, vinegar) over night and then smoked them with apple and cherry wood chips at low heat (around 100°C).

We had some trouble getting the heat and amount of smoke right at first, but after about 2 hours of smoking they tasted quite good :)

Today in Vienna :)

Join our April meetup at Stockwerk!

After two months of Android Study Group it's time for something else. This event will focus on the technology offerings from Google which we did not have so prominently recently: Go language, new cloud offerings, HTTP/2, ...

Do you want to give a presentation at our meetup? Let us know in the comments!
