This web site provides some additional insights into the lives of the photographers who enriched my life so tremendously.
Connor had his first year of basketball come to a completion this past weekend. We were told last week that pictures were being taken of each individual and even of the team. Ok, that's fine. Normally we don't get school pictures because I can just shoot and edit them myself. Granted the gentleman that did it previously was great at it and had huge clientele.
Today my son pulls out from his bag an envelope contain one team picture and 3 wallets! On the front it said his name, class name and at the bottom was $5 checks made out to *******. My wife and I granted didn't order anything, didn't ask for anything and never received any type of information packet what so ever. I guess what really irks me is that in my opinion things could have been different. Hair was a mess, picture was crooked and it was basically shot quickly, taken to Walmart and printed. No idea who this person is, no Facebook, nothing on Google! Like who does this!!
Just thought I would ask others what they would think!
1. What is the number one thing photography has taught you about life?
I see photography as a visual journey which causes you to pause every now and then and appreciate your surroundings. Before photography I was blind and it taught me to see the beauty in everyday life.
2. What was the best photo that you didn't get (missed)? Your best photo that you did get?
My best photo is always going to be the next one I'm going to take. If you don't have your camera with you, you will miss every photo 100% of the time. I don't know what I photos I missed, because I never took it.
3. What main point(s) did you want the members to take away with them from your presentation?
To become skillful in photography you have to master the technical and know how to apply the principles of good design. Every photographer is at a different stage in this journey. You have to understand and master this intersection of art and science before you can creatively execute your vision.
_4. As a judge (or as a photographer) what advice would you give to those who compete? _
Understand the rules of design, use them analyze your images. Ask the following questions:
* What are the strong design elements?
* Where are the distractions?
* What can I do to minimize distractions and emphasize the design?
5. Why do you not compete in the clubs?
I reached a point where you don't want to submit any images unless they are top honor quality. I always tried to enter fresh or recent images and if you don't shoot enough you rarely reach that bar. The reward wasn't always enough for the psychological anguish it put me through.
