How long until one of these heavily armed, xenophobic, hate mongers decides to open fire in defense of his so called American way of life.

One of the all time great photo journalists. Her work will long serve as an inspiration for street portraits. May she rest in peace.
One of the finest documentary photographers of her time, she portrayed society on the fringes.

More from the Arts & Crafts street festival. I showed this image to someone without any context and they thought it was a tragic portrait of two homeless children living in cardboard boxes. In fact the street fair organizers had set aside a large fenced in area filled with cardboard boxes. It was essentially a well supervised play pen for the little ones while the parents browsed and shopped the arts & crafts. Best dressed homeless kids I've ever seen.

This editorial piece in the Washington Post really resonated with me. It seems I have been having this same conversation with my white friends for years and years. Some of them get it but most of them don't. These are intelligent, educated people who see themselves as open minded and without a racist bone in their bodies. Yet they can deny the simple facts of recent history that Ms.O'Neal points out in this article.
Think poor black neighborhoods brought on all their own problems? Maybe you should read more history.

As Roger Daltrey of the Who famously sang in "Won't get fooled again"
"Meet the new boss - same as the old boss" And so it goes in the office of the Mayor of Washington, DC.
Photo  http://www.ledroitparkdc.org/ This afternoon, Thursday, May 7, 2015, The Mayor of Washington, DC will hold a town hall style meeting with 60 pre-selected youths from the city. Ostensibly the purpose is to prevent the kind of civil unrest that recently took place in Baltimore by learning what the youth of our city are thinking about. This is what Mayor Bowser excels at, high profile, high visibility press coverage where she and...

The clueless Mayor of Washington, DC once again demonstrates how out of touch she is with what matters to the ordinary people who live in this city.

My ongoing project documenting those living outside on the streets of Washington, DC. If you come across these folks during your busy day, try saying, hello. You'll be surprised at the outcome.
Another installment of "The Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC Dupont Circle in Washington, DC is a very hectic place with two Metro entrances/exits on the North and South side of the circle, along with ten busy streets feeding into the traffic circle. The circle itself is a sleeping place for dozens of homeless people as the perimeter is lined with benches. I was sitting on one such bench on a recent hot and humid morning when I spot...

Another installment of "The Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC I came upon Jeffrey in the Chinatown neighborhood of Washington, DC. I first spotted him from across the street as I noticed he was yelling at passersby and causing people to make a wide path around him. As these things rarely matter to me, I stopped to see if I could engage him in a conversation. The best I could do was to learn his name which may or may not be correct as...

In a world filled with distractions it is a luxury to stop and take time to really look at a photo closely, especially one like this, there are micro expressions and thought processes that resonant with me the viewer. I can also see that you made a connection with him in the relatively short time you spoke to him, and that he trusted you enough to show his 'ID' . I work with people who are memory impaired so often connect on an emotional level even when they are speaking gibberish / word salad.. Maybe that's why this image moved me so much..yes I loved Robins portrayal it was inspired..Again well done! Excellent work +Gerry Suchy +++

It would seem that the Mayor of my city, Muriel Bowser has never met a billionaire she didn't like. In the way of background for this post see the story from NBC news. Who exactly does the Mayor think she's fooling here. Does she think that people don't recall or can't access her public record statements on the matter of the insulting, racist team name that she was just one year ago opposed to. Who knows what the give aways and payba...

“It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head.” — Henri Cartier-Bresson
Introduction

There has been an explosion of digital photography and photographers, both amateur and professional, over the past few years. For digital photographers the focus is the creative and artistic aspect of their work, and this is as it should be. The very nature of digital photography, however, allows for the creation of thousands of images that need to be managed. Digital asset management

(D.A.M.) is at the core of my business model. There is a real need for individualized services tailored to the specific needs of the amateur, semi-pro and pro photographers who want to focus on creativity rather than managing files.
