Really an amazing use of technology put to good use feeding the homeless in SanFrancisco
This app has already fed almost 600,000 people -- imagine what it could do if it was available in more than one city

Whenever the SCOTUS hands down along awaited and important rulings, there is a ritual that takes place called "the running of the media interns" I have seen this in person and it's hysterical watching these news media types race to an area where they are permitted to upload the story and scoop the other news outlets. It's also a testament to how technologically backward the SCOTUS really is.How quaint that people are given a stack of paper and then race out the door to report the news.
The photo is from the Associated Press 6-25-2015 — at Supreme Court of the United States.

Another homeless person added to the "Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC project. This is Carlos.
Another installment of "The Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC I met Carlos while he was sitting on the sidewalk a few blocks from Capitol Hill panhandling. He had a broken and tattered suitcase and a smaller bag containing all of his belongings. When I inquired about his being homeless he initially said he was camping but later changed that to being homeless for the past several months since coming to Washington, DC. Carlos tells me ...

Rex Hohlbein is one inspirational guy. I am proud to count him as a friend and a collaborator in the Homeless in your city project. If you are inspired to start a chapter in your city please get in touch. Better yet if you are a photographer and aspire to do street portraits and stories about the homeless in your city, please get in touch.
Rex Hohlbein's method of using social media to get tents, clothing, car repair and other needs to Seattle's homeless is catching on in other cities

If you have any doubts as to the confederate flags use as a racist symbol of white supremacy have a look at these photos, particularly those from the civil rights era and school desegregation. A symbol of proud Southern Heritage - Indeed!
Public moments featuring the Confederate flag.

Why can't we as Americans have a conversation about racism in this country?

Truly a historic day for Gay and Lesbian couples in America. Finally after years of discrimination it is now the law that you can marry the one that you love. My advice to the homophobic haters out there - If you are opposed to same sex marriage - don't marry someone of the same sex! It's not that complicated.
In a landmark victory for gay rights, a divided Supreme Court ruled that state prohibitions on same-sex marriage violate the Constitution.

Yes!! Victory is so sweet! Onward to legalizing same sex marriage.
Justices agreed with the Obama administration that government subsidies should be available to all.

Money talks and the working poor walk. DC's priorities are so amazingly fucked up! People have been living in this affordable rent building for 30 years. They have seen this neighborhood go from urban blight to a desirable, livable location and now they are on the verge of being displaced.
Apparently not if the Museum Square project is any indication. See the link for some history. This is a tragic story on many levels made more so by the office of DC's newly elected Mayor, Muriel Bowser, more on that later. More than half of the residents of this 30 year old building on the edge of DC's Chinatown are the last of DC's Chinese population that once lived, worked and thrived in a vibrant Chinese neighborhood that has since b...

Finally! Undo send is available as a feature in gmail. Just made the best email app even better.
Hitting send is the best way to suddenly remember the thing you forgot to say in an email. It's also the best moment for noticing typos or suddenly realize that you shouldn't ask your ex to get back together. But what are you gonna do at that point? Google's user...

Another installment of "The Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC
Another installment of "The Invisible Ones" of Washington, DC This is Jacob I spotted Jacob on a Wednesday morning at 5th & I Streets, NW just east of Chinatown. He had positioned himself sitting on the sidewalk at a very busy bus stop where as many as 20 people que up waiting for a particular bus. I watched him for a period of time as two buses came and went unloading and loading commuters. Jacob could have been a fire hydrant give...

These two officers are role models and examples of how to do it right when it comes to dealing with the mentally ill. Congratulations to them and their department for encouraging a policy of "talk first and shoot only as a last resort."
In disarming him, they were part of a police shift from a “warrior” mind-set to a “guardian” approach.

Good to point out! There needs to be a balance in media reporting, else it gets more like we vs. them.

“It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head.” — Henri Cartier-Bresson
Introduction

There has been an explosion of digital photography and photographers, both amateur and professional, over the past few years. For digital photographers the focus is the creative and artistic aspect of their work, and this is as it should be. The very nature of digital photography, however, allows for the creation of thousands of images that need to be managed. Digital asset management

(D.A.M.) is at the core of my business model. There is a real need for individualized services tailored to the specific needs of the amateur, semi-pro and pro photographers who want to focus on creativity rather than managing files.
