Tasmania's capital city Hobart is the second oldest capital in Australia, and it lies nestled amongst the foothills of the majestic Mt Wellington (Tip: It's well worth the 21km drive to the top of this peak for stunning panoramic views) Photo: Greg Vance Photography

It will be interesting to see how this develops over the next period of time. As a first cut and a discussion document, it appears very exciting.

The Hobart Masterplan for the new Macquarie Point Civic Development is now available to preview. This is a plan that is still under review in order to mitigate vested interests through balances and checks so that the greater community is served not just the few and that the development not be an eyesore now or into the future. I personally believe that it is exciting to experience the cultural resurgence that my far flung city is experiencing since the coming of MONA.

The mid-winter festival that is Dark Mofo this year has a location called Dark Park, in which there is anchored a tent with the enticing name of 'Hendrick’s Parlour Of Curiosities'. It serves the most divine Tasmanian gin cocktails.
During my visit on opening night there was swirling smoke from the warming fires, people, movement and - plenty of dark.
This was an 'aim and move' shot ... which captured the feeling of delirium and excitement from the night.

This will inspire you. What an amazing piece of writing; and what an extraordinary expression of love and personal determination.

So so amazing. This tugs on the emotions at a level which plays to our distant past in every sense. Well done Joe Shemesh - and no wonder it is an award-winning clip.

I totally agree with this sentiment. More - I wish the ABC as an Incorporated Entity body would sue The Courier Mail for the depiction of their trademark in a way intended to bring ridicule and contempt upon their 'name'. If it is good enough for Joe Hockey, then one of the most valuable brands in Australia should be able to stand up for itself.

We must stop the campaign against the ABC.

It's unbelievable. The Australian government (lead by the interminably horrendous Tony Abbott) together with Newscorp (Rupert Murdoch) are tearing Australia's public broadcaster ABC apart. On one of their discussion shows, Q&A, the ABC allowed a supporter of IS to ask a question of the panel. The ABC admitted this was a mistake (and it was), but it was massively blown out of proportion. Tony Abbott said, in one of his most unfortunate choices of words that "heads should roll", while Newscorp newspaper Courier Mail photoshopped the ABC symbol onto an Islamic State flag. This boycotting has got to stop. To call the ABC supportive of the Islamic State and a "traitor" is absolutely vile. Nobody in their right mind seriously would believe this kind of rubbish.

Now normally I wouldn't post about politics on G+, because that's not much fun for anyone, but this is something that really hits hard. Our government is so deeply disillusioned by right-wing sentiment it has broadcasted an image to the world of an Australia decades in the past.

Most surely one of the most surreal and delightful moments in popular music. And of course amongst all the emotion (which must have been palpable), flawless in their delivery.
