The blog page of the TwitChat I took part in last week is a lesson in iteself in repurposing content from one channel to another and taking the time to format it so that it becomes shareworthy in its own right. The page is a work of art and an abject lesson to what we mean by creating value in a semantic search world. Notice this is a blogpost that has taken a bunch of Tweets and through clever editing and great design managed to create something that truly adds value to the conversation.
And the meaning of this is 'don't play games against the computer' as it "ruthlessly exploits the weakness of the system"...
Um, yes. Ok...

Ed Catmull nails this point in Creativity, Inc. when he says: “give a good idea to a mediocre team, and they will screw it up. Give a mediocre idea to a great team, and they will either fix it or come up with something better.”
Big, clever ideas are important for inspiring and attracting the best people, but it’s the team you build that will truly determine your success.

A cracking 8 min video, and an overview in the blog below...
This sailor's name was Robert Gordon - and he was my Father. The woman next to him is my Mother, who he met at a USO dance sometime during the war. These pictures of them were taken before I existed. Like many of that generation, he didn't talk about the war much. I know he was not hurt at Pearl Harbor- he went on to fight in the Pacific theater, but later took a bullet in the leg when his plane got shot up. Somehow though, he survived . Lot's of American's who fought in the Pacific in those years didn't.
His life was never easy. He had grown up as an orphan in the great depression - it couldn't have been a cakewalk - but he survived. For if he hadn't, I wouldn't be here to be writing this. They both survived, and they formed a partneship that went on for more than 40 years - raising children - one of whom didn't make it, building businesses, some of which failed, and in general having all the joy and pain that life can throw at you.
As I have gotten older, I have become more respectful of the simple act of survival. We hear people bragging about their accomplishments all the time - talking about how successful they are, and giving us lectures about hard work and initiative - but we don't really know what their starting point was. What gifts did nature give them? What lucky circumstances did they find themselves in? Who helped them along the way? - sometimes that all seems to have conveniently forgotten.
It is something we need to remember now and again. The debt of gratitude we owe to those who came before us - we don't want to waste their sacrifice. They survived and passed the energy of life forward so that we could make it to this particular moment in space and time. We owe it to them to do the best we can.
Google Semantic Search is now over 30% off on Google Play as part of Google's aggressive push on the Black Friday sales.
