Good on Purdue: not jumping on mooc bandwagon: http://www.jconline.com/article/20120922/NEWS0501/309220016/Purdue-not-MOOC-bandwagon

Each time another dozen or so universities join Coursera, I feel we're missing valuable opportunities for experimentation. It's too early in the game to centralize on a platform or approach. Need diversity!

apparently green day had a bit of a melt down. From the tortured youtube comments - always a a great place to find wisdom - it could be the revival of punk rock Green Day Billie Joe freaks out at the I Heart Radio Music Festival and smashes guitar! (do I have to say "language warning"?

I posted a rather lengthy reflection on the changes in education (driven by entrepreneurs) and some concerns related to those changes (great comments!): http://www.elearnspace.org/blog/2012/04/19/remaking-education-in-the-image-of-our-desires/
The current generation of students will witness the remaking of our education system. Change is happening on many fronts: economic, technological, paradigmatic, social, and the natural cycles of chang...

The hotel is new and nicely set up. Front desk staff are friendly and considerate. Unfortunately, that's the extent of the positive aspects of the stay. Serious maintenance issues. The elevator has been down for over 4 weeks (and counting at time of writing this review). Air conditioner wasn't working - 6 days and counting to fix it - a real treat when outsides temps approach 40C. The did offer to move us finally, but the hotel was full first several nights when we first reported the air conditioner not working. The washing machine in our apartment "force locked" and couldn't be opened - 4 days to fix. Pool was out of service for 3 weeks. The patio door latch was broken and took 4 weeks to fix (and numerous prodding). Communication on all of these issues was non-existent. Numerous calls and visits to the front desk were required to figure out what was going on. Beyond the control of management, but numerous nearby bars produce significant noise until about 3 am on weekends. It is a nice facility, but until management improves communication with guests and takes prompt maintenance seriously, I would not stay again.
