OK, since today is the Nerdy 9th
, I've decided to make this my National Coming Out Day. (not that I'm a gay geek - we all know that) I am a list geek. Spreadsheets make me happy. Data about the minutiae of my life is fun. I taught myself Access by building a database of my movies cross referenced and searchable by Director, actor, themes, release year, and including all sorts of other fun but useless goodies.
I have other spreadsheets tracking my travel for the past 7 years, my vacations, all our household expenses and years worth of moderation details for the online book club I used to run.
As an avid reader, I've kept an excel file listing everything I've read since October 2009 and every book I've bought since then. Then, with that data, I've added in all sorts of goodies to at various times calculate how much I read on a average month (11 to 13 books - about 65k book locations), How much I've spent on ebooks and ereaders vs. how much I would have spent on print books, my rate of purchasing DRM free vs. DRM books, etc.
Most of this is completely useless as far as real world application goes, but it all makes me happy.
I'm most proud of my book list. It's a labor of love and take copies with me when I travel so I can keep it up realtime.
