Support Women in Film! Calling all #Twilight Fans!
Have you heard? New Twilight films are available to obsess over and watch online.
Stephenie Meyer had a contest using her beloved characters from the Twilight Saga. The goal was to find new and talented women in the movie industry. It started with fans voting on which characters most interested them. Alice was an obvious favorite. The next stage of the contest was for screenwriters to write about those characters. The judges read through lots of entries and picked out their favorites. (Mine didn't make the cut.) The fans then were able to vote from those chosen. The next step the directors gave a pitch on why they should be chosen to make winning scripts into short films. Once the judges picked the directors they started filming. Now it's time to vote.

WeI had a special screening on our own since we couldn't go to California last Monday. We loved all the movies and were so impressed with the screenwriter’s stories and directors bringing them to life. We voted for our favorite #TURNCOATS, giving it a 5 star rating.

Zenobia’s mother saves her life

Zenobia's mother not only saved her life but she inspired Zenobia to become a warrior and a queen who fights for justice.

In book one, Zenobia - Birth of a Legend, at the beginning we learn how Zenobia's mother presents her baby girl as a boy to save her life. A decree by the sheik regarding all baby girls to be killed all because they were not useful to the tribe. Can you imagine being raised in such an environment? Read book one to witness the strength and ability Zenobia has to overcome these obstacles.

Zenobia never runs away from a challenge and it will become her lifelong goal to fight against the injustices of the world.

In book two, Zenobia – Challenging a Legend the education Zenobia receives in Egypt is not always in the classroom. As a mother, Zelina is afraid of where these lessons may lead her daughter. Read an excerpt from book two where Zenobia tells her mother how her example has taught her to love justice:

“You had to defend me from the morals of our tribe to save my life. In my view, you are the most courageously righteous person I have ever known.” Zenobia was silent briefly, then she added, “I get my love of justice from you. I hope I can live up to your example."
Zelina could not hold back her tears and she was too choked up to reply.
Zenobia continued, “Therefore, I respect your words, as I respect your person. But do not worry about me being influenced by Roman or Greek ideology. I am committed to my course.”

In Zenobia - Challenging a Legend, Zenobia experiences some heart-wrenching incidents, forever altering her path. She doesn't let these hardships break her. As you read the Zenobia Book Series you'll learn how these occurrences and the example of her mother will mold Zenobia into the powerful warrior and dedicated queen she will become.

Zenobia - Birth of a Legend - BUY NOW!

Zenobia - Challenging a Legend - Coming soon!

Zenobia lives by this motto:

"Be thankful for all the struggles you go through in life. They make you stronger, wiser and humble. Don't let it break you, let it make you."

It's Humor Month... so lets get laughing. Not only is it Humor month but it's also Stress Awareness Month. The two can go hand in hand. We can eliminate stress with humor.

If you’re feeling particularly stressed, perhaps it’s time to take a quick YouTube break. We love to watch Jimmy Fallon every evening on the Tonight Show and we especially like his Friday "Thank you notes."

There is strong evidence that laughter can actually improve health and help fight disease. Studies show that laughter could be the simplest and surest way to reduce stress and improve physical and mental health. Josh Billings, a researcher from the late 1800s, may have said it best – “There ain't much fun in medicine, but there’s a heck of a lot of medicine in fun.”
See Article at: http://sciencemadefun.net/blog/national-humor-month-the-science-of-laughter/
The fact is that laughter itself changes us physiologically. Like exercise or waving your arms around, it boosts the heart rate and increases blood flow, so we breathe faster and more oxygen is delivered to the body’s tissues. Our facial muscles stretch and we actually burn calories when we’re laughing. In fact, the mere act of smiling can alter your mood almost immediately.

Laughter Reduces Stress: When stressed, we produce a hormone called cortisol. Laughter can significantly reduce cortisol levels.

Laughter Can Reduce Pain: Laughter causes us to produce endorphins, which are natural, pain-killing hormones.

Laughter Strengthens the Immune System: A hearty laugh decreases stress hormones and increases production of T-cells, immune proteins and infection-fighting antibodies.

Laughter Helps the Heart: When we laugh we increase blood flow and the function of blood vessels, which can help prevent cardiovascular problems.

Laughter Relaxes the Whole Body: One good belly laugh can relieve physical tension and relax your muscles for up to 45 minutes.

Laughter Helps You Recharge: By reducing stress levels and increasing your energy, laughter can help you focus and achieve more.

There are many women in history who have made a great difference. We of course would like to share the amazing story of #Zenobia with others.

Many have never heard about Zenobia; A true historical figure in 3rd century Syria who conquered Egypt and challenged Rome.

Why haven’t we read about her in our history books?

Until I read book one, Zenobia- Birth of a Legend by Russ Wallace I had never heard about Zenobia.

The Zenobia Book Series will follow Zenobia's extraordinary life that the history books have overlooked.

We may not know all the facts but with research and a great imagination Russ Wallace was able to speculate what would motivate Zenobia to battle against the greatest empire on earth, Rome.

Zenobia was a great leader in her time and I believe the love for her people made her stand up against the injustices of her world. She didn't want to live in fear. She wanted the same world we all dream about; a place where everyone is equal and our thoughts and ideas matter.

Many people around the world are experiencing the same injustices that Zenobia once fought against.

A novel that entertains and educates us is just what we need.

What a great article on Zenobia the Musical. Lorrisa did a great job playing Zenobia. The article references America’s fascination with Cleopatra. We hope this play and our ‪#‎zenobiabookseries‬ will put Zenobia on America's radar as much as she already is in the Middle East.

In Book two Zenobia - Challenging a legend, Zenobia uses two different aliases to accomplish dangerous life and death missions. It's not just her life on the line but her fellow warriors and those whom they are trying to save.

Using multiple names for a character can be tricky. In one of the writing forums I visit they discuss this issue.

http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?247452-Multiple-names-same-character&s=4f3178002db92755db63020416d1ea77

Here are some suggestions by other writers on how to use multiple names for the same character:

"I'm handling it by always calling her by her real name in the prose, but using her fake names in dialogue."

"When someone is speaking to him, use the name he's being referred to in the dialogue. Then when the MC responds, have the dialogue tag say his real name. At least to open the exchange. Use his real name throughout the story. Be consistent with, only referring to the other names via dialogue with other characters."
"How you handle it depends largely on how many POVs you are writing from. If the only POV you use is your MC's then, as others have said, in the narrative stick to his original name and in dialogue use whatever is appropriate. But if you have other POV characters who would only know your character by one of his other names, then that name should be used in the narrative as well, else it would be a POV violation."

Another important note is to never confuse your reader, so a good introduction to the alias being used will go a long ways.

Let me share some scenes from book two Zenobia - Challenging a Legend to see if the multiple names are being used correctly and if it's clear to YOU the reader.

In this scene Zenobia and her fellow warriors require help from a pirate about commandeering a ship.

It was twilight when Zenobia, Salim, and Lemuel met Jasmine. The four of them made their way down to the docks along the sea...

"We have arrived," Jasmine said as a stocky man came around the corner of the building. Zenobia's hand instinctively went to the handle of her sword.

"Caras, good to see you," Jasmine addressed the man. "This is Lydia. This is Caras, who may be providing your ride."

"I am pleased to mee you, Caras," Zenobia said with a bow. "My business partners, Salim and Lemuel."

Salim and Lemuel, Syrian warriors are trying to get information about a certain ship. Here's a scene using an alias as they pretend to be a pirates looking for work.

"I told you so," said Salim to Lemuel. "Let's try to sign on for a grain ship or something tranquil. We don't need risks."

"You two look like you can handle yourselves, though" said the heavyset sailor, coming over to them. "Name's Atlas." He extended a large hand.

"Drevor," said Salim, taking the hand. "Yeah, we've been in a brawl or two."

"Or twenty, I'd guess," replied Atlas."You know how to use that?" he nodded towards the sword on 'Drevor.' Salim only gave a curt nod.

Here's another scene of Zenobia using her alias Lydia, now on a ship pretending to be a harlot.

"I am captain of the ship. Lydia, however, is the matron of the harlots," he added gesturing to Zenobia...

A solider came up from below deck and made a report to the Roman captain that Zenobia could not understand. "Any sign of contraband?" he asked in Latin. The solider shook his head. He turned back to Lydia and asked in Greek, "You could, I suppose, demonstrate your singing and dancing skills?"

The next alias Zenobia uses is a critical one. The man she will need to fool is lethal. He knows Zenobia and so that makes Zenobia's deception as a servant girl even more dangerous.

A week later Zenobia had transformed into Azara, the beautiful and seductive servant girl of Saladir. All of the other preparations were complete, and Saladir's caravan departed for Egypt...

She was now disguised as Azara, and so she would remain until her mission was completed.

If you're struggling with using aliases in your writing we hope these examples will help. Check back often as we have more Writing Questions to come.

We appreciate any help you can provide, please leave a comment below.

Not only is it Humor Month but Poetry Month is celebrated in April too.
http://www.poets.org/national-poetry-month/home

Let's combine the two with some funny poetry.

A limerick is a silly poem with five lines.  They are often funny or nonsensical.  Limericks were made famous by Edward Lear, a famous author who wrote the "Book of Nonsense" in the 1800's.  This was an entire book of silly limericks.

Here's a sample:

"In every block of marble I see a statue as plain as though it stood before me, shaped and perfect in attitude and action. I have only to hew away the rough walls that imprison the lovely apparition to reveal it to other eyes as mine see it." - Michelangelo
