Geo-Solutions (GSI) is a proud sponsor of a recent entry into the Red Bull Flugtag competition held in Pittsburgh, PA. This competition is held in several cities each year across the U.S. and the world. The competition requires teams to come up with creative, home-made flying machines that are launched 22 feet above water, to see who can fly the farthest (before crashing). GSI was one of the sponsors of the Left Field Loonies team who placed 3rd in the overall competition. GSI’s V.P. of Engineering, Ken Andromalos, PE., DGE, was one of the team members. Ken used his geotechnical engineering skill sets to help design and build the flying machine. The 1st place winner of the event consisted of a team of aeronautical engineers that designs planes for a living. The Loonies fared well against the aeronautical engineers and are confident that they would be no match against the Loonies in building a slurry wall 100 feet into the ground. Congratulations to the Left Field Loonies for placing 3rd out of 37 total entries!

Geo-Solutions is midway through a cement-bentonite "piano key" excavation and disposal project in Western Canada. The sunsets are beautiful, but the site really can get cold! For more information about this and other interesting projects, visit our website: www.geo-solutions.com

Congratulations to Amy Robinson Grass for winning the October photo contest with her photo of Geo-Solutions' environmental soil mixing project in NY. The photo shows the soil mixing drill rig and support excavator working within a sheetpile barrier.

Thanks to everyone that attended the short course titled "Vertical Barriers for Geoenvironmental Applications". The 8 hour short course was hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers' Geo-Institute at the recent (August 2016) GeoChicago technical conference. The short course was co-presented by Bucknell University Professor Jeffrey Evans and the Geo-Solutions, Inc. Engineering Manager Dan Ruffing. The attendees ranged from academics, to engineers, and to contractors. Including the United States, there were attendees from 7 countries from as far away as Australia and South Africa. Jeff and Dan really enjoyed the opportunity to share their knowledge with such an engaged group and plan to continue offering varieties of the course at future ASCE events and possibly other venues.
