Dengue is a mosquito-transmitted systemic viral infection that, while asymptomatic in the majority of cases, can also present in a clinical spectrum ranging from a mild, self-limited febrile illness to fatal disease characterized by severe vascular leakage, coagulopathy, and hemorrhage (Simmons et al). Dengue is concentrated in the tropical and subtropical latitudes, and a very recent study by Bhatt et al in Nature asserts that the number of yearly infections (likely approaching 390 million per year) is more than triple the widely-cited estimate suggested by the World Health Organization.

The importance of the common fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) to the biomedical sciences is difficult to overstate. A detailed understanding of its life cycle, anatomy and histology, a fully sequenced genome with significant homology to the human genome, and the development of an array of genetic techniques allowing sophisticated observation and manipulation of gene expression are just some of the features that have made D. melanogaster such an exceptional model system for studying fundamental developmental and physiological processes. The relative ease in generating transgenic flies, and the fact that between 50-75% of human disease genes have orthologs in the fly genome, has facilitated the creation of model strains for many human diseases (1, 2). Incorporation of both normal and disease model fly strains into drug discovery and validation protocols is a particularly exciting application that will likely be expanded in the future.
GeneTex understands that it can be difficult to find reagents that have been specifically tested in Drosophila, so we are pleased to offer a selection of almost one hundred D. melanogaster-validated antibodies. We will continuously add to this product line as new reagents progress through our verification process.
GeneTex produces high quality antibodies and research reagents validated through extensive research, development and testing. Our products have earned the trust of the research community for their quality and reliability.
Our state of the art production facility employs highly specific antigen development and affinity purification. This has facilitated the establishment of a comprehensive antibody collection covering an array of research fields.
Because of GeneTex’s extensive experience in antibody manufacturing, we are uniquely able to serve the demands of the scientific community by providing accurate technical knowledge and reliable customer service.
