I'm about 70% through The Magicians, but I must admit I am finding it a little dry and a bit of a struggle to motivate myself to keep reading. Which is a shame as I usually enjoy the book club pick. Ah well, maybe the next one will be more my cup of tea.

Loving the video show though :-)
This video show has prompted me to join a book club for the first time! Can't wait to get a bit more involved =)
I really didn't like The Magicians at all. I found it very difficult to get through it. I totally agree with Veronica that the story would have been better told through Alice or Penny's eyes. Actually, I found Quentin to be the least interesting character in the book. I did not in any way relate to him, and just found him tedious. I also found, with the exception of the part where they were in the arctic, the book tended to completely ignore the cool fantasy parts. It spent chapter after chapter talking about the mundane stuff, then when something actually exciting was happening, it just glossed over it.

I've just bought Hyperion, and am really hoping I like it better. LOVE The Sword and Laser, and I'm really glad Geek and Sundry picked it up because I'd never heard of it before. I never thought I'd be excited about being in a book club, but even though the first book I've read in the club has been one I didn't enjoy, I love the way it was presented, love the GoodReads comments on it, and love the show.
I think the story really gets it's footing in the sequel, which I am only half way through, and am enjoying far more than the original, it delves more into the fantasy that should have been in The Magicians, but wasn't.
I too could not get into The Magicians, not even enough to finish it. Back to the library with it, not even 1/3rd read.
I've only gotten about 85% of the way through the book, but I'm just not getting the hostility I keep seeing.
